I should still try to get another nomination correct?

Context- Parent is in the Air Force and we sent in the presidential nomination. In my portal, it shows as received a presidential nomination.

My question- Now that I have this nomination I've heard that I should still try to apply for other nominations since more than 100 people apply for this nomination. Is this correct? Can my nomination sources see that I have received a nomination?

Exactly what @A1Janitor said. Apply for the nomination from your congressman and senators. It'll be a longer process, depending on where you're from, but it's the smartest thing to do. Like you said, only 100 people receive the Presidential nomination. Apply for all of them just to be secure.

Also, apply for the VP Nomination as well, relatively simple online application.

Consider the NOM to be a requirement - so the box has been checked. However, you should also consider each nomination received as an additional lottery ticket. There are multiple rounds of competition ahead of you. As a nomination holder, you advance to the next round automatically, but that is not the end of the competition. In this arena, you will complete amongst those nominated by the same nomination source for a seat on the bus. If you go head-to-head and lose the competition to another candidate, you likely move into the qualified alternate pool to wait it out with others on the National Wait List to see if your number comes up. The more nominations you receive, the more opportunity you have to win a nomination slate and get the seat reserved for that nominating source. Most Congressional and Senatorial nominating sources have 1 seat to give per year.

You may ask... well why do they get to nominate 10 per vacancy? It's all part of the process. Some districts will not nominate, and this provides a vacancy to be filled by the national wait list. In general, the NWL is rank ordered and the next qualified candidate gets an offer - regardless of geography, but they must have a nomination. These types of exchanges all occur very late in the game, so you ideally win a nomination slate and get an early notification of your golden ticket. NWL is a quiet and long waiting game that many find very stressful because of you not knowing your position on the list and whether you will ever get the call.

Just a small tweak.
All who apply for and are eligible to receive the Presidential nomination receive it. It’s a non-competitive nom based on eligibility. If 600 are eligible and apply, 600 will get a Presidential. The SAs who use those noms may only charge 100 appointments each to that source.

The standard advice is “apply for which you are eligible.” That gives the SA the most flexibility as to where to charge your appointment if they want to offer you one, to echo other advice here.

I actually have a question now that we're on the topic of Presidential nominations. If I have parents who served as Officers (Dad was an Air Force Major and my Mom was a Naval Commander) and honorably discharged. They are currently receiving disability from the VA. Would I qualify? I'm not too sure how the Presidential nomination works.

See 'Service Connected Nominations' on the academy web site or here: https://www.westpoint.edu/admissions/prospective-cadets/nomination-information

It's the same process for all academies. You'll undoubtedly need to talk to parents to see if you are eligible, but the basic requirements are described there. If your parents meet the requirements then you're eligible. You should also read the stickie at the top of the Nominations forum.

100% disability i believe has its own nomination source so if either is that, but as long as one of your parents have 2800 points total you’d be eligible
