Important matters concerning the existence of Humanity - BACON

Wife asked me this morning when was your last normal weight this morning. I said I don't know. When did I get out of the Navy? hehe

Among the hotbeds of BBQ: I’ve had Georgia BBQ, Carolina BBQ, Kansas City BBQ, Texas BBQ (though the latter specializes in beef and not pork). Now I’m looking forward to trying ’Bama BBQ as DW and I head to Birmingham next week. Though I must say, to fully enjoy it, I’ll need to get the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes” out of my mind. Those of you who’ve seen it know of what I speak. 🫢😲🤢

@MidCakePa how do you rate the BBQ’s thus far?? Including the pork belly??

Oohhh There Be Dragons There with this seemingly benign question.

May I respectfully point out we probably need a BBQ Wars thread, because we have stepped outside the Bacon Zone?

The Dread Bacon Lord himself, @THParent will visit his wrath upon us should we venture there and unravel a thread of 2000+ posts primarily about bacon.

I fixed it (i momentarily forgot where I was. I blame it on lack of bacon 🥓). Pork belly…Aka bacon. Voila.

WHEW THAT WAS CLOSE!!!!!

BBQ could bring in Brisket. I am not a lawyer but I did stay a Holiday inn express last night. Seems to be a grey area. Maybe "The Pork Thread"

Good points all. BBQ is its own entity, vast and contentious.

I keep checking back to see if DBL (Dread Bacon Lord, but quite possibly not Dear on this occasion) has rendered a judgment.

I will diverge just a moment longer to answer @justdoit19. They all have their strengths, and I’m sure opinion and preference depend on the particular places one checks out in any region. But I’ll say I thought KC BBQ was uniformly strong across the board: ribs, pulled pork, brisket, sausage.

Now, to bring this back to bacon: Best straight-up pork belly I’ve ever had was at a restaurant in Mill Valley, just north of San Francisco. I felt immediately intoxicated with my first bite (OK, maybe the wine had something to do with it). Sadly, it was a very long time ago and I don’t recall the name of the place off the top of my head.

OK, back to our regularly scheduled programming! 🥓🐖😋

DBL here!

Bacon can come from a pig's belly, back or sides — essentially anywhere that has an exceptionally high fat content. In the United Kingdom, back bacon is most common, but Americans are more familiar with “streaky” bacon, also known as side bacon, which is cut from the pork belly.

I have spoken. This is the way.
