Although I understand you wanting to understand the past landscape of noms in your district, it really isn't relevant. In any one year, all that it takes for your district to be extremely competitive is 1 other candidate that has better stats than you. Just 1 person can knock you to the NWL where you have a lot more competition. I do wish you the best of luck, but concentrate your time and efforts into things that you can control to improve yourself as a student and person.

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has any idea of the level of competition in Connecticut for congressional nominations. I checked around on the forums but there are no recent posts or updated information.

My FFR told me that my area (District 2) isn't that competitive with our local Congressman Joe Courtney, but I know nothing about ones from our senators (Blumenthal and Murphy). On a side note, he also said that nominations for USNA are much harder to come around here ("submarine capital of the world" and naval bases) and locally that more people apply to Annapolis and Coast Guard than USMA.

Has anyone else been through the process in CT? I still have a year, but I'm curious to see what I'm up against.

Thank you!
I also live in CT-02 and from what I've learned is that it isn't very competitive for the academies. I am applying to USAFA and I know my friends got her nomination from Courtney pretty easily. I'm not sure how it is for USNA though. We are just lucky that we don;t have any high school military academies here, really.

This thread might be a bit old, but does anyone know anything about how competitive CT-04 (Jim Himes) is?

Our experience from this year (2020): Apply for a nomination from both Senators (Blumenthal & Murphy) and your Congressman (Himes) before their deadline via their website. If your application is selected you will be given an interview with a specific date, time, and location. The interviews were in Nov and were staggered with Blumenthal’s committee first week, Murphy second week, and Himes end of the month. If you get a nomination from Blumenthal your interview with Murphy is cancelled, if you get a nom from Murphy, then Himes interview is cancelled as CT seems to only allow 1 nomination. The Interview with the committee was important so wear a nice suit & tie and be prepared.

Moderator Note: I’ve changed the name of this thread to “Individual State Appointments?” to reflect the inclusion of other states besides the original one. It is also to discourage the creation of separate threads for each state.
