Just to through this into the mix, see also Post #209 from Fastpitch on the corresponding Navy ROTC thread concerning results from the last NROTC board (http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=15596&page=21), where the Navy parents are being told that the Navy has unexpectedly decided to slam the brakes on things, when they were told something COMPLETELY different just two weeks ago. Coupled with the recent US Air Force Academy's announcement that it is suddenly reducing the size of its incoming class, a common theme is starting to emerge. These changes do not appear to be attributable to computer problems, changes locations for CC personnel, or DoDMERB clearances. And, with all due respect, even an AROTC PMS who participated in the last AROTC board is NOT invited to sit at the table during these congressional budget meetings. These are decisions being handled by Army General Officers, JAG Corps officers, and Finance Corps folks -- not ROTC cadre. In that regard, the ROTC cadre do not have more information than any of us do.
Moreover, I wouldn't be surprised if we start seeing announcements from the other SAs about class-size reductions, similar to the ones that USAFA has made already. As Pima has previously mentioned on one of these threads in connection with the USAFA announcement, this will have a downward cascading effect throughout the ROTC ranks, because more folks who received ROTC slots from the first board who are waiting to hear on SA appointments will opt for the ROTC slots they have been awarded. A perfect storm.
I apologize for being negative. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm with Ohio2015Parent on this one. I'm trying to think about other things now. But I still would like to see this thread earn its coveted place in the SAF Hall of Fame!
Must. Think. Happy. Thoughts. Given what I've learned on this board from everyone here, the chances of my DS receiving an AROTC scholarship appear to be very, very low at this point because of his school-choice selection. Ohio2015Parent, the point you made about "Let's just get the 'ding' notice done already!" is a really good point! My DS has the same attitude as your's -- he's focused on earning a commission one day. This whole scholarship thing is simply a distraction from that objective, because he's not doing it for the money.
