I'm currently finishing my senior year of high school, and I've received and appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy and have gotten accepted to the University of Arizona. I know I want to go active duty in the Navy or Army, and originally I was set on going to the Merchant Marine Academy, however it doesn't really have the major that I was looking for, so now I'm planning on going to the University of Arizona. The only issue is I didn't apply for the NROTC national scholarship, if I apply to the NROTC college program can I be denied from the program? If so, what are the chances that I get denied?

Does not matter. Most are not in ROTC as freshmen scholarships. But Work hard and you win one from the schools ROTC program. Note to self look down the road and find out what is available and plan early. Also if $$$ are a discussion point as it is in most families are your ARMY bound look into National Guard opps at AZ that can tie into tuition reductions.

'In theory its possible you could be denied, but in practice it's highly unlikely, especially for someone with an MMA appointment. Once you've made your final decision contact the unit at University of Arizona and let them know you are planning to enroll as a college programmer. They can then get any paperwork started and get you included in the orientation at Great Lakes.

You can also re-apply for the 4 year NROTC scholarship -- provided you don't have college credit equal to a sophomore. Once in NROTC, you'll also be eligible for a sideload scholarship. Keep all options open.
