I have had noodles for breakfast before. Quite wonderful.

Back to hot dogs, you insipid thread-derailers.

I remember having a particular U-shaped hot dog bun. They were sold in packages in an interlocking fashion. It made the hot dog experience even better. I fear that no one makes them anymore. I think that they were made by Toufayan Bakeries. They may have been called "snuggies".

Sadly, they do not make the "snuggle" hot dog bun anymore. Only photos survive.

There is a cult following for these. Apparently, the equipment doesn't exist anymore, but the bakery tells people that they have been "looking into making them" again.
Even then, those troglodytes showed the dog with ketchup on it.

    Adding to the discussion…

Traditional bun or New England split-top roll?

    Toasted or not?

I’ve been known to have a hot dog with cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla and dipped in salsa. I call that culinary delight a “tilla dog”. Otherwise, the $1.50 hot dog and drink from Costco (with mustard and sauerkraut of course).

    Toasted.
Potato traditional or split-top are equally pleasing. Now, if I could find a potato split-top...

A DH favorite is part-splitting the dog length-wise, cooking it in a grill pan, then putting some extra sharp cheddar or aged Sonoma jack in the split to melt before taking it off heat, proceed as normal with onions and Gulden’s, the toasted potato bun with garlic butter.

But really, the very best thing you can put into a hot dog bun is about a 1/2 pound of freshly steamed lobster meat, with a bit of mayo and butter and salt and pepper, a.k.a. lobster roll. Get it at a seaside shack in New England for the most authentic experience. (Though the little franchise in DTA that sells them is decent, if a bit out of place.)

Are you SURE they used a "dog" and not a "SPAM roll?"

When I went to Oki to see the kid a year and a half ago now, we went out for a pizza. Evidently the Okinawans think sliced hot dog is pepperoni. Definitely not to my taste. I'll settle for a dog on a slice of bread with ketchup and tabasco.
