LEAD Program Appointment Thread (C/O '22/USAFAPS '19)

Wolf, how is the out processing going to work out? Are you on active orders until you're about to leave. Are you required to use up all your days of leave? Are you getting an early sep and just going to go back home until school starts? Are you paying to get there or is TMO taking care of everything? I know it's a lot but let me know.

These are all questions that I would love to know the answer to as well lol. I really have no idea. Once I find out more I'll let you know.
Yeah I’m in the same boat man. They said congrats and I haven’t heard anything else and I still got a chunk of leave I gotta take before June haha. I heard USAFA contacts AFPC and they contact MPF and then your flight chiefs so on and so forth. But as we all know AFPC is a black hole so who k owns how long that takes. I was told to contact CSS as well to see if they had anything for me to start out processing. If you get more info please let me know. Also did you get direct or prep school? If you got direct you should pm me so we know each other before basic! Priories got to stick together man

You could sell your leave when you go the academy.

If you're still an Airmen that receives BAS and BAH. I recommend you take it, you'll get more reimbursed than you would selling it. This is what my TSgt of 20 years told me. He said never sell your leave just take it they won't give you much for it.
I mean everyone has a unique take on it but you get base pay pro rated. So I'm at 55 days right now. If I get accepted and take 15 days sell 40 that's $3000 in pocket. Leave is cool but money is also nice. I guess it just depends.

Geez dude have you ever taken leave? lol

Right. My DEROS to PCS is coming up this year, trying to figure things out here overseas.
Same situation. Stationed overseas, and in the meantime packing for an imminent deployment. It is going to be a wild year regardless of what happens with USAFA, and I can't imagine the process if it works out in my favor. Best of luck to everyone!

So my specific base has a 4-day weekend every month and the entire continent (Europe) is our local area. I only take leave about once a year to visit family in the states :)

I really don't think you guys should feel like you're behind the curve.. I know it's super stressful, but the timeline on the application even says that results should come out around April 1st. I'm really pulling for you guys!

I know for a fact that going to the preparatory school isn't possible for me as I've already hit the age limit. Therefore it's probably not correct to assume that all of us are prep school bound as much as I wish that was true. I'm personally expecting a rejection at this point as it seems that rejections are often handed out later in the selection process i.e. around this time. However, there are those that deny or otherwise reject their appointments which leaves an empty slot for USAFA to fill. In which case, they dig up the runner-ups (probably some of us) and hand out the last few appointments they need/want to fill. Of course this is all just speculation, but I have heard of appointments for both prep and direct entry being handed out as late as May so you can never truly know.

The moral of the story: It's not over till it's over. Got in? Great! Didn't make it? For the young guys - apply again. For the old guys - have a plan B.

Pullin' for you brother. IIRC though you said you had quite a bit of college done and a pretty good GPA. If USAFA doesn't work out for you, it might be a blessing in disguise. I'm sure you've looked into it, but on the off-chance you haven't, ASCP could be a great option for you. You would commission in half the time, too.

Thanks man. I truly didn't think my package was too mediocre, but I guess it still wasn't good enough to warrant an appointment. at least for now. But I'm already looking into SOAR and/or ASCP. I have back-up plans upon back-up plans:

Plan B: SOAR and/or ASCP
Plan C: ROTC
Plan D: Remain enlisted
Plan E: Blue to Green as a warrant officer.

And yes. Remaining enlisted comes before the Army

@Jcush97 Have you gotten orders yet?

Been watching this thread for awhile and figured I'd join in. I've still not heard anything and have heard many different times on when the academy will get back to us

Don't get discouraged! The USAFA website states that they will notify Airmen of qualification and selection status in early May... The dates are all over the place, but there is still plenty of time.
