My DS is a Falcon Scholar currently attending a sponsored prep school. He unfortunately did not receive a nomination from his Congressman or Senators. The other falcons (who have nominations) that he attends school with received their appointments last month. My DS just received a LOA saying he has "been approved for admission once you secure a nomination." How is he supposed to get one now? What should we do?

To my knowledge there is no way that you can get one at this point. I suspect they have sent the LOA in anticipation of providing your DS with a nomination from the superintendent or something... but I'm totally just guessing based on the fact that they know you cannot get one at this point, unless they're talking about the next class year in the LOA.

Presidential nomination if a parent has 8 years of consecutive military service. Still has a chance.

The VP typically has only one spot but has 10 nominations. Remember the Additional Appointees just need a nomination to get an offer.

Keep the faith. My DD received an LOA from USAFA in very late April, pending nomination. The nomination came the next day, source unknown. After all that, she attended USNA.

Only an opinion, I would venture to say that a LOA at this point is contingent on appointments offered being declined. There are several who have declined in the self reporting in this forum so keep the faith!

I believe he is going to get a nom and an appointment. Absolutely no other reason for the LOA. In this case the LOA means “hang tight, we are getting you a nom.”

My source is the SAF threads. I’ve read about Admissions behaving this way in previous posts. They find ways to get who they want.

Just an opinion, but I think I’m correct.

Please post the outcome, will be interesting to see how this goes.
