Could I ask your son's academic and other specs?DS c/o 2021 received an academic LOA in mid Oct 2016, his younger brother just received one for the c/o 2023 on Saturday. Both are strongest in academics. Older sister, c/o 2018 was a recruited swimmer and received one in Oct as well. So they are starting to come out now.

Your son seems to like the first LOA form USAFA.
What were your daughters CFA scores when she was requested to retake it? (long time ago, you probably do not recall, but I am asking just in case you remember vaguely what she needed to improve on). How long did USAFA give her to retake the CFA? When was her deadline for the original candidate package?Monarchs'19 my daughter received an academic LOA near the end of Dec. I recall several academic LOA's being issued around the same time (mid Dec '16- early Jan '17). They had sent her an email requesting her to retake the CFA which she did. I think it was a week or two later she received the LOA. From my understanding, LOA's are used to be competitive with large athletic schools to attract top talent. I think academic LOA's might be given out several rounds later. I'm speculating but that's how it worked for us. Hope this helps.
If you get a request for something get it done quickly. Possibly means they are actively evaluating you and possibly trying to overcome something minor that allows them to make you an appt.
Ok so your comment is a bit salty.
I have been on this forum for over ten years and have never once heard of an "academic LOA." What is that???
I wonder if people are starting to make up terms to fit a desired narrative. For example, “Billy has awesome grades but just OK on everything else, so he got an ‘academic LOA.’” Or, “Jenny is a recruited athlete, so she got an ‘athletic LOA.’”
From an SA perspective, this seems to detract from the “Whole Candidate/Person” concept.
I agree and it does detract from the WCS. I think people are making these terms up. There is only one LOA issued by USAFA, and it does not distinguish between Academic, Athletic, Diversity and Whatever You Think Your Kid Got It For categories. Let's not start making this a "Hey, my academic LOA is better than your athletic LOA or my kid's Diversity LOA is more unique than your kid's Homeschooler one" contest. The smartest kids in my kid's class were also Div I athletes( and not just football) and are now in pilot training . A bunch of those athletic types were also smart enough and are now in med school or grad school. THREE of the kids we know that got LOAs -> kicked out of USAFA before junior year.
To the kids that get them, congrats on the LOA, don't rest on your laurels, now get everything done and hopefully you get that appointment. Make sure DODMERB doesn't trip you up. Every year we see it here - Yeyy I got my LOA -> DODMERB says not cleared -> no appointment or kids don't get a nomination -> no appointment.
And oh BTW, on I-day, NOBODY will care if you got an LOA. And if that bothers you enough, do mention it to the BCT cadre, they will make sure you get recognized for it.

Is your son still in HS?
My DD got an LOA
Just as likely your DD got an LOA because of her gender (sorry! sometimes it's true - not always), her sport, her business, her class office, her race (it happens, don't get your knickers in a twist), etc. Until you are on the Admissions Board, you aren't likely to know what your DD had that they WANTED badly enough to offer an LOA.
hopefullmom2023, I'm guessing skismuggs "opinion" carries some weight. You might be wise to hold off on the snark, until you know better.
I love the idea that idea of reporting that "Academic" (or any other new category) LOA on I-Day to your cadre, while wearing the "Fly Navy!" t-shirt. Yeah, that should work out just great.
