Can P2B and parents shop at the mid store on the day before or day of i day? If so, what ID is required?

Yes. If memory serves, you’ll get temporary shopping card before I-Day, which you then trade in for a permanent card at the store. Should be no problem at all shopping before the big day.

If I wanted to walk around the Yard with my parents on the 26th (day before), is there anything stopping us?

No. Same as for any other walk-in visitor, and barring any change to current security levels, and with the proper ID, you can visit. Ensure your IDs are compliant.

Take advantage of being there the day before and have your parents get their ID cards that will allow free passage through any USNA gate for the next four years. Instructions are in your PTR packet. Beat the crowds by doing this early at the Gate 1 visitors entrance. That card is one of the great perks, right up there with Mid Store shopping privileges.

If you see the t-shirt with all the class names on the back, snap it up. They sell out on I-Day.

The Midstore card, also known as the Yard Card, was disbanded as of May of 2019. The academy found the card to be too expensive for the amount of use it got.

Is (was) the Yard Card different from a mid store purchase-privilege card (as referred to in MidCakePa’s comment)?

For sure! And FYI, they have them at both the Mid Store, and visitors center. Last year, they were gone at the Mid Store but still in ample supply at the Visitors Center.

Yes. Yard Card was a mid product for local Yard use that could be topped off.

The Mid Store privilege card is exactly that - authorizes you to shop there. It’s a controlled access store.

Never had the ‘yard card,’ and know they got rid of that, but did get a card for shopping at the Mid Store (there is a temporary one in the PTR as discussed-although I didn’t have mine on IDay and had no issue shopping). Actually received it parents weekend at the Mid Store. They had a table set up where we traded our temporary one for a permanent one. I THINK that is all done through our Mid with all the processing he did throughout Plebe Summer.

Hat tip to @justdoit19. My memory is hazy re when we got the permanent card — I-Day or PPW. In any case, it was no problem at all shopping as long as we had the temporary card, which came before I-Day. I’m headed to the Yard in a couple weeks to visit DD and have that shopping card safely in my briefcase, ready to whip out along with the credit card. All to support the Brigade, of course.

By the way, suggest folks check out both the Mid Store and the Visitors Center Store. They have different merchandise and there’s some really good stuff too at the latter.

The Yard Card (for Mids) was discontinued, NOT the Parent's Midstore Card. Two different cards.

The "ID card that will allow free passage through any USNA gate for a Mid-Parent for the next four years" is called a DBIDS card. It qualifies as a "military ID" for 10% off at the Visitor Center Store.

Was there supposed to be the temporary card in the PTR for 2023? If so, there was not one, nor any info about it in mine.

I really am trying to remember, I believe it was a tear out card that was in a brochure type thing. Titled something like NASBD, or maybe even Mid Store? It also has a coupon for 10pct off an online purchase. IF IM REMEMBERING correctly. It’s been a while.

It will be in the "parent packet" which is mailed separately from the Permit To Report package, to the Plebe's parent(s).

There wasn't a parent packet this year. Parent stuff was included in the PTR

Ah! Subtle differences. Cutting costs, no doubt. I like it.
