Missing helicopter with 5 Marines aboard

There is no such thing as routine training, especially with the weather they're experiencing.

Reported down near Pine Valley Ca. Weather still bad and hampering SAR. Why would they even try Miramar with that weather?

Looks like the aircraft was found and SAR teams are looking for the crew. Any thoughts from those who have been through survival training? Are you taught to stay with/near a downed aircraft?

It was reported the aircraft was found after having gone missing. Did the SAR crew find the aircraft surrounded by wreckage strewn from a crash? If so, may the crew rest in peace. In this case, if the helo had landed safely, the crew would have stayed with the aircraft. The survival vests have an emergency radio and personal cell phones could possibly be used to notify authorities that the aircraft was safe on deck. The Super Stallion is a huge helicopter. If the crew had to brave the elements, staying inside the cabin area would have been the best option until help arrived. God bless them all.

There's a debris field according to ABC News currently broadcasting.

This is what I suspected. I pray its not true and hope they’re not trying to identify remains amongst the wreckage.

I’m hoping it was a controlled crash and they are sheltering in place. Doing what Marines are trained to do. This is so difficult for families and loved ones. My first thought when I saw the report was of my nephew stationed at Pendleton. I hold out hope.

I’m not trying to be a jerk. But listening to news outlets I’m hearing ‘it’s snowing or it’s cold or it’s raining and the topography is difficult’. Seriously? We are one of the best war fighting platforms in the world.

I drove that pass last weekend. Not saying I know things. I don’t. But if in our own backyard we can’t send resources to search and rescue due to some rain??? This terrain is isolated and rocky with limited road access. But it isn’t Mars. Or some hilly terrain? It’s not a good look that media is pushing. This is 4000 feet max. Not 10k where we operated in Afghanistan.

I am confident we can and should do better in responding re media. I just want media to report better.

I’m salty. And sad. Maybe I just want good news. My heart is breaking for the families, service members and loved ones of those involved.

Makes sense. But, I'm not sure what else they can say. Puffing the difficulty at least buys time if the gov't doesn't want leaked info.

BREAKING: 5 Marines confirmed dead 🥹

So many questions rolling around in my head. Don't understand flying in a historical storm. I don’t know what to think about this but it sure doesn't make sense.

In the past year, hosted overnight a Marine buddy of DD's on her way to a new posting. Met multiple buddies while visiting DD at TBS and then at TBS graduation. Got to know a couple more while helping them move in with DD at MOS school. These Marines are like family. They are family. So this is very sad. God bless them all.
