I plan on applying for the Army ROTC 4 year scholarship and was wondering what you think my chances would be
3.7 Unweighted GPA
Top 10% of class
1948 SAT Score (694 cr, 611 math, 643 writing)
7 AP classes by graduation, 3 AP tests taken and passed
705 on US History SAT subject test
All 3 years varsity tennis team and letter winner
Model UN and Foreign Language Club member
County Government "Close-Up" Program
2 year part time waiter (if that matters)
Thanks!
Well....as it has been said before, a lot depends on the schools you listed on your application since AROTC Scholarships are school specific. It depends on how competitive the ROTC program for each school. If your #1 school has 200 applicants that listed the school and they are only alloted 6 scholarships then it is less likely you will receive a scholarship to that school, the same goes as you work your way down your school list.
Of course if you have listed some schools that have more alloted scholarship slots then they have applicants then your chances are pretty good.
You Academics and Athletics look pretty good, what you didn't list is much of your Leadership qualifications. Were you Captain of the Tennis team, were you the president or in a leadership position in any of the clubs you listed. What do you have in the way of leadership stats.
Even if you have more to list it really doesn't matter at this time, what you have is what you have and all you can do now is wait and see what happens. Having everyone disect your stats will not improve your chances.
As a couple of the ROO's that post here have said, if you don't receive a National Scholarship, don't be disheartened. Come to school ready, be in good shape, pass the APFT the first time and pass it with a high score. Participate fully in ROTC, keep your GPA high at the midterm. Do all this and you will put yourself in a position to receive a Campus ROTC Scholarship, which is the same thing. My son's school gave out a 4 yr, 2ea 3.5 yr, and 2ea 3 yr scholarships this year. Come ready to perform at a high level and you'll have a good chance at one of those Campus scholarships if you do not receive a National. Of course the school to attend and the size of the program will agan have a lot to do with it.
Best of luck.
