Hello, I have been accepted into the class of 2024. I am trying to open an account in Navy Federal Credit Union, and they have asked for eligibility. What can I send in to show my eligibility?

Screen shot of appointment on portal? Scan of a hard copy offer of appointment?

Technically you are not eligible until you have your USNR CAC/ID card in hand, but the branches at SAs will usually do early but not by months. You may be too early.

Do you have anything yet that has the “report to X location on Y Day at Z hour?

My admissions officer said I will not receive indoc information until mid May

Then I think that’s when you can try for it. I know the NFCU account form as an option in the USNA Permit To Report packet. I don’t know if it is the same at KP.

I don't think it is in the permit to report packet, but you definitely want a NFCU account because there is a "branch" on campus. Simplify your banking by considering putting a parent on your account with you in case of emergency and to assist during sea year if needed. Many Plebe candidates open an account on campus the day before INDOC starts if you do not have a branch near your home.

To add to kpmom2013's suggestion, I recommend giving ones parents a power of attorney to access all accounts, mutual funds, credit card information, Lifelock, and anything else one can think of. Also, sign a release at the medical clinic so that they be told of any condition that arises- unless you specifically say otherwise. Make sure they have a list of all your ID numbers and passwords- believe me ***** happens EVERYWHERE in the world. A quick call home can get everything shut down within a few minutes. It takes about a few MINUTES + 1 for that information to be used elsewhere. Please consider this. Don't reinvent the wheel.

Also, if you wait until you can go to the NFCU on campus the day before Indoc, they always have a great deal with a referral bonus. We had the name of a midshipman from our state who we designated and he got something like $50 and our Mid got $50 in his account as well. Then, my husband and I both opened an account and used our Mid's name as a referral and so he got an additional $100! Good deal all the way around. :) If you have an NFCU in your home city, sometimes they have a referral bonus as well, but there is always one at the KP NFCU one during Indoc. :)

When I went through indoc, we all opened accounts together. I've never used the account, decided to go with USAA instead.
