I'll start by saying that I have never been a college football guy. However, once my plebe started last year, I was all in. Now, I find myself being very pessimistic as to this seasons chances to occur. My question to all of you is: What are the odds that Navy football happens this year?

One man’s opinion: ZERO.

Once the Power 5 make the decision to push to spring — which appears virtually assured — it will be nigh impossible for any other program to justify playing this fall. And yes, that goes for the A-N Game. (They played it during WW2, but that was a different time and place, oddly more serious and less serious than today’s context).

Not making a value judgment either way. Just answering your question

If they push till spring, they cancel for year until next fall. I think the delay itself. would only be to keep appearances until January.

So, if that is the case, I would think the Army Navy would/could still be held as a complete one-off.

I think a three way season for CINC Trophy and National Championship would be great !
I also think close attention will be paid to the optics and risks. If there is an outbreak after a SA-SA game, even a minimalist fan-free version, and God forbid, serious illness leading to just one cadet or mid not being able to commission, or worse, the fall-out would be terrible.

If Big10 does indeed cancel the season, or postpone till spring (still not official at this point, but 'sources say'), then Nebraska looks likes it's planning to go on its own and play whoever they can find

For us, the money for the home game Season Tickets, 6 Army-Navy tickets, and SuperDuper Blue & Gold membership is a donation at this point.

YeeHaa .... I got my 2-Wheel Pro-MX racing starting next Saturday though. They are eeking-out a 9 race outdoor schedule. I got to watch the Amateur Nationals all last week.

You can’t stop MotorHeads .... Some of us can’t live without the Adrenaline Rush:

I’m still holding out hope. SEC, BIG 12, AAC, ACC+ND. Lots of pressure on ADs and conf Presidents in south and Midwest right now to keep it.

I know this is all speculative, but how would this affect the fall semester in general for the brigade? I know back in my school days, fall was football, and the semester was easily sectioned off by which football game each weekend and it flew by. Without sports (and without liberty), will this make the dark ages start after labor day?

I believe that sentiment already exists. I’ll re-post:

Brigade is pretty much in a dark age as it is with no liberty and a lot of activities on the Yard being secured. Actually a lot of mids view the lack of mandatory sporting events as a silver lining to this whole mess, though it doesn’t really matter since there’s no weekend liberty to take advantage of.

Gotta love Mids creativity. I guess the good news is Mids will be so bored after ROM they will have amazing PRT scores! (Or least should) A nice run and workout is probably the highlight these days. I am guessing the gyms are closed? Are pools open? Hopefully once the Brigade is all back and settled they can have some movie nights and other things to break up the monotony.

> Of course..every COVID decision is about risk/reward. The risk is Midshipmen getting sick; I suspect that many of the Midshipmen would be willing to take that risk but CAPT MJ is right, the media fall out would be real bad ! The reward is showing the American people that the Service Academies can adapt and persevere, regardless of circumstances. A few inter-Service games would be great for promoting awareness of the Service Academies, as well as give the American people a welcome respite from cancellations. Deciding whether the reward is worth the risk is why the Supe get's paid the big bucks !

One thing I am curious about is whether college football programs are completely shut down, i.e. no training, no practices, etc, or whether they are just cutting out travel/competition this fall ? A month or so ago I had heard from a pretty reliable source that athletes at one major university were getting daily testing , with rapid turnaround, and continuing to train. (And yes, I took a bit of an issue with using limited resources on college athletes.. it's all about the money !)
