New ribbon?

Well at least you get to display yours. Mine is tucked away in a box.

How do you all think PIMA came about? I didn't make it up, Bullet did, however I like SWIMBO

I guess the one part of the story I did NOT mention should come out...

Yes, my display will be large, ostentatious, etc...why not, when you've been around this long (entered USAFA 25 JUN 79!!!) you collect a LOT of things, and some actually mean something.

HOWEVER...I do have ONE thing going in my favor.

CinC House...while she may say things like she did, I can always remind her: "Yeah...well, YOUR UPT hero shot, Desert Storm Shots, and your medals/ribbons/etc., are all framed and on the wall already!!!"

Yep, my better half is an OTS graduate, AF engineer, and then a pilot. She did 10 years on active duty.

So...MAYBE I can use that to "manipulate" the situation???:thumb:

(probably not) :lolatyou:

i have the CG equivalent of this and i would echo what someone else said previously that it is a participation award not really considered on the same level as the bronze star. all it means is that you were there when your unit did something out of the ordinary.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
all this talk of medals....

My dad.. a vet of WWII, Korea and two tours of Vietnam (28 yrs AD)..

get this..

he took shrapnel in his 2nd tour of Vietnam while in the field, he was tended to by a NAVY Corpsman (whom just passed a few yrs back).. the injury was note in my dad's medical records (after his return) but the incident of injury was not noted in his records while he was still in Vietnam... He has never received a Purple Heart.. Reason: There is no record in his record to the incident when the incident happened... Although he still has shrapnel in his leg today and it continues to be discolored and cause him medical issues to this day...

SOOOOO........ I just shake my head.....

Mind you he is disheartened that he has not received it, but its BS.....

Is there NO way to fix this? We see things like this "corrected" all the time. Are any of his unit members still around???

He has tried and he was told to get a statement from the Corpsman that treated him in the field but he has since passed.. he has talked to I Corps several times.. but they all just gave him a blank stare..

basically they told him there isnt any proof  they just need to look at his leg I think Xrays showed it, but they say they dont have the treatment records (lost in Vietnam under a rock somewhere).....
They remind him his disability has been notched up to 100% ... but, well that is cause he got zapped with Agent Orange

I would check the awards manual for that one BR2011....there's a bit more that goes into it. A majority of what you'll do will fall in the "out of the ordinary" category.

maybe the manual says its more than that but based on the citation for the one i got and the frequency that i see it on other people i would say that its a little "easier" to get than the bronze star.

Ha, I would agree.

Yeah, the manual actually states how applicable an award is, how many people you have to afffect, etc....and that's for every award.

Do you have copies of your Dad's Medical records and Service Record Book? If not write to NPRC and request them. You can use the Medical records to prove the event. I have seen this done and as has been stated, it is done a good deal more than ou will here about in the news. Also check the unit diaries and logs. Events such as incoming fire and other combat action is always noted. Good luck and I am more than willing to try to get any answers that I can for you.

I will have to talk to him again... Thanks... records.. LOL.. we got them.. BUT I dont think his records at Madigan have that stuff in them anymore... I'll see..
