NROTC - got turned down for Georgia Tech

I hope maybe someone could answer this for me. My son is applying for a NROTC Scholarship. His 1st choice school other than USAFA and USNA was Georgia Tech. He found out today that he was not accepted to GT. Should he let his NROTC coordinator know? or just let the chips fall where they may and possibly get one to his next choice? Is it possible to get NROTC scholarships to more than one college?
 
You need to ask the Mods to move this thread to the ROTC forum, where you will get more responses.

OP: your scholarship will be awarded to a single college. There is a process provided in the information packet which outlines the steps necessary to transfer the scholarship.

Regarding contacting the NROTC coordinator. It can't hurt. I believe there is a process to change the priority order of schools.

If GT was his #1 college on his NROTC prioritization list, then he should reach out to HQ to have it taken off the list. If he doesn't and he gets a scholarship, and if there is still a scholarship slot to GT, that is where the scholarship would be awarded to. Your DS would then have to start requesting a scholarship transfer to another school. I'd avoid that hassle and take GT off the list now.

Have your DS call GT NROTC unit and ask them. They will know if they have any pull in these situations and will give sound advice to your son.

I would certainly let Ga Tech know. (I work for a University with NROTC and my DD is a 4 yr scholar at VT). I can tell you that all schools will encourage you to let them know immediately if you have been awarded the 4 yr NROTC scholarship as additional application info. I have heard of *some* cases where a decision has been reversed but it is best to let them know before they make the decision so they can consider it on the initial review. I don't want to give the impression that this happens all the time - it does not, but some schools may reconsider the fact that the NROTC awarded this prestige scholarship as an "endorsement" or additional recommendation of sorts of your DS' potential and see it as additional information to consider that was not previously available. It never hurts to ask the University - but do so soon. Then, I would let all the other schools on your DS list know that he has been awarded the scholarship.
 
Please don't delay in getting your scholarship transfered. If you are able to get into GT you can transfer it back.
Work with the folks in P-cola to assign it to a safety school. It only takes a couple days.
Schools will start filling up soon.
The fact your son was awarded in an early board, he shouldn't have any problems.
If he waits, that could allow his other choices to fill up.

+1 to USMCGrunt. There is a process to change the list of schools and their priority. Contact the NROTC coordinator. If a scholarship is awarded to GA Tech in the interim, then use the scholarship transfer process.

I agree, this is what we did when DD first school was a no go, and frankly, it worked out much bette where she ended up. Good luck.
