Nrotc Marine Option?

I'm getting the same problem - I log in and it prompts me to start a new application. I thought it meant it was denied...hopefully that's not the case.

Would it be better to reach out and contact the officer in charge of my interview to find out a result or to wait for one to come.

Same thing happened to my portal... Doesn't mean you are not selected.

I just received a call from the capt I interviewed with, I received a 4 year scholarship to UNC Chapel Hill!

Good luck to all!

Was that for the second board or the first? The bottom status is the current status.
The bottom line current still says Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection so does this mean i have not been denied?

Yes. The top line should say application submitted, then the next is a rejection (from first board) and bottom is at the board for review.

I completely understand. When DS got a "Thanks, but no thanks" it was mid-April. But that was plenty of time to execute plan B which looked just like plan A but without the scholarship. As long as you have plan B lined up there is really no cause for concern. You'll find out in plenty of time.
Hey im going through the same thing, and wonder if youd be able to help clear my mind. I havent heard back yet, mid to late april is when ill know, and i figure i have a 50/50 chance to get a scholarship. If i dont get one, i still really want to do nrotc. How do i join the NROTC without the scholarship? ive had a hard time figuring that out

There are two or three courses you need to sign up for during freshman orientation. The NROTC unit at the college you attend (presumably it has a unit) can tell you the specific courses. Basically it's the first Naval Science course, Navy Lab, and Navy PT. They might go under different names and course numbers at different colleges which is why I suggest you contact the unit for specifics. Once you're signed up for these courses the freshman adviser at the unit will send you some forms - a physical you need to get (like for a high school sport) and some others. You'll also receive info on when to report for NROTC freshman orientation, what to bring, etc.

It's important to sign up for all three classes as students can take the Naval Science course without being a part of NROTC. It's always helpful to contact the unit.

@JakeReitz have you looked at the Purdue NROTC website? There is a lot of information on their college program.
Specifically https://polytechnic.purdue.edu/nrotc/prospective-midshipmen/joining-nrotc-purdue
If you are not a National NROTC Scholarship Recipient, and wisth to join Purdue NROTC as a non-scholarship student, fill out and return the below application. Applications for the non-scholarship program (College Program) are due by July 1st. You will receive word from Purdue NROTC on your application status in July. More information on joining the unit as a non-scholarship student is located here: Non-Scholarship Courses of Action.

And https://polytechnic.purdue.edu/nrot...joining-nrotc-purdue/students-not-scholarship

Good luck and enjoy your visit to Purdue.

Thank you, this is a lot of help for me. Which would you recommend, out of the two options, that I do? It seems that its very difficult to get a 2 or 3 year scholarship. As an out of state student who is paying for college himself, Purdue is about 45k a year for me, so a scholarship would really help me out. That being said, I will still join the NROTC, scholarship or not. Would you recommend that I wait until the first semester and try for a four year scholarship again, or join and compete for a 2-3 year scholarship?

You can join NROTC and do both, try again for a four year and compete for a 2-3 year. The unit can give you details.

If you have interest in becoming a Marine Officer, I recommend you join the NROTC unit first semester and compete for all scholarships as kinnem notes.

It's a difficult time for the kid (as well as the parent) -- even for those of us that generally knew how the process went. My son didn't get the scholarship the first time around, but was selected for the 4 year during the early board the following fall while he was a college program mid.

Again, I hope anyone in this situation is already well on the way to executing secondary plans.

rocatlin.. I have a question about the 4 year scholarship that your son was awarded during his freshman year of college. According to the Purdue website, you can re-apply for the 4 year scholarship while you are a freshman but you can not be enrolled as an NROTC Midshipmen. It sounds like your son was in the college program when he re-applied for the 4 year. Do you know if this rule specific to just Purdue or is this a general rule. Or, are we not understanding something. Also, was your son able to participate in the Cortramid the summer after his freshman year given that he was awarded the 4 year.
