DD just got a call from her Marine Captain informing her of a level-1 scholarship offer. Still waiting on AROTC and CGA - a mountain of vision DQs to face down (esotropia, astigmatism, current or recurrent diplopia - all diagnosed at CGA during swab summer while wearing an old prescription) - all correctable with her glasses, and a "history of systemic reaction to food or food additives" DQ - not life threatening (waived by CGA last year). I'm not confident and want her to guard herself against having her heart broken again, but she won't quit until she knows for sure. Any info re: waiver chances welcome. Ready to pull the trigger on Army Reserves. I admire her desire to serve and hope she gets all the information she needs before she feels she needs to commit to make her college arrangements work.

Congratulations to your DD on that call from the Marines. I am not sure I follow your entire post but wanted to offer a few comments.

Your DD will be asked to submit paperwork accepting the scholarship offer within 30 days. No reason not to do this.

She will be scheduled for a DODMERB physical. I do not think they do an eye exam at this visit. Further, I believe the Marines have a far lesser vision standard than the other branches.

Without knowledge of your DD's specific situation, I would recommend holding on Army reserves until the above takes place (if at all).

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I am wishing she'd slow down and wait for all the information. She was at CGA last year after going through DoDMERB process which does include an eye exam that found nothing wrong with her vision at the time. She had a vision anomaly that led to all those vision DQs during swab summer which led to her subsequent disenrollment. She's applied for next year, and had to report the vision thing to DoDMERB, who DQed her. She'll now need waivers for all of that. I looks daunting, but I'm still hoping for the best.
