I applied for the NROTC Marine Option scholarship and was notified that my application was not selected for a scholarship. I had heard that sometimes if you are not selected, you still can be selected after the fact if they have remaining scholarships available. Does anyone know if this is true?

Once the boards are done, there are no "extra" scholarships. You can reapply, however. As long as you have less than a sophomore level of hours (earned via AP testing or other college credit means), you can reapply for the 4 year scholarship.

My son reapplied. He also enrolled as a college program midshipman to be eligible for sideload. He ended up getting awarded the 4 year scholarship after the early board his 1st semester his freshman year.

My son commissions in 6 weeks.

A write up I did awhile back...

+1 to rocatlin. I strongly encourage you to enroll as an NROTC college programmer. DS did, at his #1 school, and received a scholarship in the middle of his sophomore year. He's serving today in Okinawa and spends spare time exploring eastern Asia..
