Not senior year, but this was my DS' case. As a high school freshman, he wanted to go to USNA. He applied for NASS, but did not get in. His interest in USNA started to wane as a sophomore and as a junior, he said he still wanted to be a naval officer, but he really wanted to have a "normal" college experience. He did not want that 24/7 military experience in college. He had never heard of ROTC, so I told him a little about it. He took it from there looked up some information about the program and decided it fit what he wanted to do. Now he couldn't be happier with his decision. He is loving his NROTC experience and his civilian college experience.Additionally, as a person processes through their senior year, and face actually making their post high school choices, NROTC may be a better fit overall.
