NROTC version of "Anyone still waiting out there?"

My DS just found he was awarded a 4-year NROTC scholarship, however it is assigned to the one school he did not get into...starting the transfer process! :/ The first notification he received was an email from the NROTC unit of the school, so he checked online and the status was changed there as well. We also figured something was up because he got a notification from DoDMerb just a couple days ago (about a DQ that has already been waived by both USNA and USAFA). Oh, and last name starts wit a "W"! :)

Daw- congrats to your DS. Curious though, isn't your DS attending USNA? Are you transferring NROTC as a back up plan?

Unfortunately I am unable to wrap my DS in bubble wrap as many others do until his season is over! lol Still keeping the options open...

don't mean to be disrespectful but ...

don't mean to be disrespectul but ... if you already know that your DS is going to the Naval Academy (ie: has received an appointment) couldn't you leave that NROTC scholarship possibility to somebody else rather than keep it in reserve as a back-up plan ? some of us may have to wait that much longer to find out if we've got a chance at all. it's kind've like the stories i've been reading about people with triple noms to the service academies ... as if there were 'plenty to go around'. that simply isn't the case - especially this year when its all so hyper competitive.

Ok...suppose you had accepted an appointment to an SA, and two weeks before you were supposed to report you fell down the stairs and broke your leg. Wave goodbye to the SA...now what? And having an appointment and accepting an appointment are two different things...

This happens more then you might think.

There are two type of applicants, one applies only to ROTC, and one will apply to an academy and ROTC as a back up.

There are a fair amount of applicants the receive both appointments to a SA and the ROTC Scholarship. Many will hold onto the scholarship until the last possible date. Usually this date is past the date of the last ROTC offers so when the scholarships are released they are not given out but just absorbed back into the system. We were told that some of the returned scholarships may be given out but it was unlikely.

The biggest reason appointees hold onto their scholarships is the fear of getting hurt before they report to the academy, you can show up to ROTC with a sprained ankle, you can't at the academy.

Unfortunatly this is the system that is in place, some ROTC applicants won't get a scholarship because they are tied up.

This is not exclusive to academy appointees, some applicants receive scholarships from more then one Service, some will accept and hold onto all the ROTC scholarships they receive until the last possible date. When they finally release the one's they don't want the unused scholarships go, well...unused.

If you don't receive a scholarship you really will never know if you could have had one of the unused. The best you can do is to go to school as a college programmer or in the case of the Navy, re-apply next year.

Good luck to you.

If you break it bad enough you wave goodbye to the NROTC Scholarship as well.

Didn't your son already accept the appointment.

I got the message this morning: I wasn't selected for a scholarship. Disappointing, but certainly not the end of the line for my military aspirations.

For all of those who still have "no decision" on their status page, hang tough; you're still in the game.

NROTC

I received my NROTC AND AFROTC OFFERS 2 MONTHS AGO I AM GOING
TO TEXAS A&M BUT I HAVE TO MAKE MY DECISION SOON WHERE ITS NAVY
OR AIR FORCE THAT I AM GOING TO TAKE. I AM ALSO ON THE WAITING LIST
FOR NAVAL ACADEMY BUT AFTER TALKING TO REGION 3 NOT MUCH CHANCE THAT WILL HAPPEN SO OFF TO TEXAS A&M FOR ME. Wish everyone else good
luck

Has anyone from the 6th Marine Corps Recruiting District heard anything yet? The NROTC Status still says my app is at the board, I'm in Florida and I've seen people have recieved updates from Maryland and Texas but not from my area? Any reassurance for me?

Lower Alabama

Status changed to "no scholarship" late yesterday. The day after my TWE from the USNA. Not my best Easter weekend. DS.

Was notified Friday night that I didn't receive NROTC scholarship. I'm in the northern VA area. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Found out Friday that I was a No Go. I wanted to follow in My Father's, Grandfather's, and Great Grandfather's footsteps and be a Naval Aviator.

On to plan B

Sorry to hear it. Good luck with plan B. Hope it includes a path to commissioning.

Status updates

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to ask a few questions on about those who were and were not accepted for the NROTC scholarship.

First:
I just logged on to the NROTC page, and it has already gone to 2013. Does that have any significant meaning?

Second:
My recruiter told me that they changed the website so you cannot check your status for selection. Due to that, I haven't checked it in a few months, and he expects that we will hear a decision by the middle of this month (that is all speculation though).

Third:
How did a most of you find out of your final status? Yes's and No's

Just a confused applicant with eager hopes because no school in my state offers my major. I also received the dreaded TWE for the Naval Academy this past week as well, but I'm over it and am going to use it as motivation for myself.

Thanks in advance everyone!

I still have a "No Decision" message when I log in to check my application for the NROTC scholarship. Should I be concerned? And by the way, if this matters at all, my basic stats are 3.89 unweighted GPA, 1380 M+CR on SAT I, and etc. I'm sooo anxious to know because I have to make a final decision on what college I want to go to soon! And if I don't get the NROTC scholarship, I know which school I won't be able to attend:frown:

Darn

Well, thanks for the link. Unfortunately, I wasn't selected. Looks like I have some MAJOR thinking to do.

Still waiting!

I've been lurking in this thread all day and finally worked up the nerve to post. I'm still waiting on an NROTC decision as well (app recieved, no decision yet). My nerves are off the charts. I basically put down a deposit for my first choice school, University of South Carolina, and am waiting to see what happens. At least I got a finacial scholarship there. Fingers crossed.

Also, I applied for the LREC program. Haven't seen anyone talk about it yet. I wonder if it plas an important factor in my decision. Anyone know? Who else is still waiting?
