Official EA Mail Stalkers Unite Thread!

The ol' Boss (as usual) makes a great point about deferrals, especially this year.

Last year (c/o 2013) 235 Early Action appointments were awarded, while 176 were sent out for Regular Admissions.

This year (c/o 2014) the plan is for less than 170 during EA! And that is from a list of close to 1,000 Early Action candidates!

Which means that there will probably be close to 240 awarded during the RA cycle in order to yield a class size of around 290.

Don't dwell on the negatives of a deferral letter too long, look at it as another chance to impress the CCEB with higher SAT/ACT scores, another varsity letter, another merit award, another presidency of x club, or a face-to-face interview.

Luigi59,

What is the proper way to update your file for items such as an additional varsity letter or MVP award? Do you e-mail your admission officer or do you send the information in via a certified letter or is it best to make contact via phone? Is there a way to verify that your file has been updated?

Thanks for your help!

my admissions officer told me they are not conducting interviews for EA anymore? is this correct

I love this thread! so much great news...

Admissions partners in your area should be able to get you an interview!!

big envelopes

Does anyone know when the bulk of the mailing goes out. Needless to say I haven't received anything as yet and I am becoming anxious. Everytime the mailman comes I feel nauseated. I did notice that people in my part of the country has been receiving envelopes so this is NOT getting any easier. I wonder what method is used for sending these envelopes out. Who gets theirs first? I am so nervous I dont know how I will get through the next few days.

That is correct, EA is over.

AAP's had to return all EA interview forms to the Admissions Office by 11/15.

However, admission interviews are still taking place for applicants as the Regular Admissions deadline is not until 1 Feb 2010.

Contact your AO via email to ask which way they prefer updates to be submitted.

Relax, the only letters to go out so far (last week) were for candidates reviewed by the CCEB in Rounds 1, 2 and 3. Geography did not play a part.

The bulk of the appointment and deferral envelopes will go out this week. Full Appointments will come via USPS Priority Mail in a large 9x12 envelope, deferrals will not.

I'm gonna start an APPOINTMENT thread, please add your name to the post when you get one!

I feel nauseated.

YEY...me too. If you look back on pages 19 and 20 from last year, you will see that many did not here of anything until 18th-22nd. But I do sympathize with feeling like, "Hello--Hellooooo, Bueller...Bueller?? haha. If youv'e seen the movie, you'll know what I'm talking about. If we do get bumped to RA, that is still good news, because CG is going to be doing so many more admits than last year. Keep us posted Arizona. -officer

With the recent reversal of the decrease in appointments for 2014, I think the admits will be on par with last year....290 or so.

Last year I kept telling myself that if it was meant to be, it would be. Easier said than done, but I tried to focus on that as my mantra. The year my son spent reapplying did end up being a blessing...really. Sometimes I think we get so focused on making things happen on our own timeline (or thinking that by worrying about them nonstop that it will somehow help....like I did!) that we forget that the most difficult challenges and disappointments bring about unexpected and amazing opportunities.

Everyone on this board, I'm sure, is an amazing candidate and CGA would be lucky to have them all this year. But, as many will attest, if you get the skinny envelope in the spring, AND really do want CGA, try again.

But for now, no talk of "no" letters. I am thinking good thoughts for all who wait! It's almost over for EA people, and just beginning for everyone else. Hang tough!

Last year our daughter received a reply on December 22 I believe. We did recieve a letter a few weeks earlier stating that she would be notified by December 24 about an appointment. It seemed as though the whole admissions process is very organized and we were acutually surprised when she recieved her conditional appointment a couple of days earlier than 12/24!

Be prepared after that---there are so many things to do!!! She completed the DOD medical and passed and then after careful consideration accepted her appointment. She then had to make sure she had a current passport through 2013, had to recieve numerous immunizations for traveling abroad, had her wisdom teeth out (so she wouldn't have to do it while at the academy) and get two pairs of glasses (required for vision correction even if they wear contacts). We barely got it all done under the wire! And then there was R-Day! She looked shell-shocked at the end of that day! She said she was sad to see her family leave her! But she survived swab summer and is very much enjoying the Academy--the classes, her shipmates, the swim team, the band---the cadets do so many things--it almost seems impossible! And you as a parent really want to encourage other parents and applicants because you've been through it too with the admissions process! Hang in there!!

We're getting them out as quickly as we can, but the majority will still probably be mailed on December 15th.

Objee, How are the mailings coming along?

New to posting. One young man at our high school received his appointment packet Monday. We are still waiting anxiously. Hope good news comes soon!

Thanks for the encouragement sir,
it's just hard waiting when alot of people have heard. i have heard if i get in i will have to go to prep school bc i have been out of high school for a year and a half.

Many in the same boat

BM3 Miller,

You are not alone. There are only a tiny fraction of the applicants represented by posts here, although many are watching. Due to our location, my son will probably not get any news by mail until closer to the new year. He is handling the wait well by getting in as much surfing as possible during the Christmas break. Beats shoveling snow while awaiting news. :thumb:

capo, because if you haven't heard the bad news, there's still a chance to hear the good news.
