My DS will be visiting the USMMA tomorrow and staying overnight on campus. For anyone who has participated in the overnight visit, what should he bring? What types of clothes, sleeping bag, towel? We haven't received any information from the admissions office.

You don't need to dress too formally, just don't wear sweatpants. Khakis are fine. You don't need to wear a tie. When I went a cot was provided to sleep on. Didn't need to bring a towel either. Really you don't need much. You'll share a few meals, attend a few classes, walk around campus, and hang out. It's good that your son is going. It'll be fun and will answer any questions he may have about KP.

I'm surprised that admissions hasn't given you any instructions. I would certainly call them. When our DS visited last year, he took a small duffel with shorts and a t-shirt to sleep in, khakis and a button down shirt with casual shoes (not athletic), toiletries, towel, sleeping bag (if you have a really small one), athletic clothes if working out with a team, maybe a small gift for the host room, money for the NEX or incidentals, and a small notepad. He also took a check to pay Crystal Enterprises for the number of meals they provided.

Just to add to the above, if you are interested in a sport and it is in season, bring appropriate gear. Some coaches will allow you to work out with the team. Also, bring something more casual than your khakis to hang out in your room in.but

Yes sir. No sir. Listen to the questions. Answer them. [emoji3] and like is said above bring work out gear. Change of clothes. Team sports gear-cleats, singlet, tennis shoes, etc. And remember it is a 24 hour interview but not really. Lol. There are, or at least used to be, evaluations that the hosts filled out.

Do they still do the evaluations? Interesting...

come back around after you digest the experience, and let us, and others looking in the future, how you did, what you experienced, etc.

My DS is spending the day and tonight with a plebe. I’ll report back here after we pick him up tomorrow and get his impression of everything.

I can say that my husband and I were very impressed today. The crew coach gave us a tour...DS is a rower. We learned a lot and asked a ton of questions.

Thanks to those who responded to my question above. More thoughts tomorrow...

Can I PM you, boatingmom? DS is interested in the rowing team as well and has spoken to the assistant coach . . .

DS had a great visit at USMMA and received an appointment! The director of admissions presented it to him while my husband and I were there. I think having the rowing coach advocate for him helped...or at least sped up the process. We”re very proud of him but he’s got a big decision ahead...he’s going to wait to hear from USAFA, his first choice. But having an appointment to USMMA and an AFROTC scholarship is nice.

Btw, to add into the mix, d's would have a better chance to go Navy flight out of KP than USNA. There are flight spots reserved out of each class.

It was not by invitation. You can call admissions and schedule it. I don't know about juniors, but you can call and ask.

MJ2020: Fairly certain overnight visits are for HS seniors only (or HS grads). Day visits are for HS juniors or seniors. And make your appointment soon; no visits after Memorial Day weekend. Enjoy your visit, and good luck!
