Hello P2B's of '24. I just got an email with my platoon assignment, although it appears there is no company assignment. It reads, "You have been assigned to Company, X Platoon" (X for anonymity). Wanted to see if A) I am purely misinformed and there are no company assignments or B) I just got unlucky and my assignment was messed up in communication. T - 3 (to 6) days to PS!

As always, head to the primary source, USNA.edu. The PS regimental org chart doesn’t change much year to year.

Skim until you find the chart.

Thank you for the link! While I'm sure that the company assignment would be the same, like you said its good to check the primary so I'll make a call soon. Thanks again!

According to DD, who’ll be a plebe summer detailer: The usual format of two platoons per company and then those platoons folding into specific companies come ac year, will not be in place this year. For example, in the past, 1st Platoon and 2nd Platoon — both in Alpha Company for plebe summer — folded into 1st Company and 2nd Company respectively for ac year.

Platoons are being kept separate this year to minimize cross-contamination of companies. Seems to make sense. So 30 separate units all together, whether they’re called platoons or companies.

Don’t think there’s any reason to call anyone. What you got is accurate. Rest assured those letters were checked twice and thrice for accuracy. Trust the process. The organizers got this!

I would think Plebe summer 4C Platoon X would fold into Company X at some point later this summer. Then you may be reassigned a new Platoon (1-3 or 1-4 ?) within your respective company.

Maybe I am just restating in a different way what others have said.

Can confirm MidCakePa’s information, normally it would be something like Bravo Company 4th Platoon and that platoon would have 40 plebes, but now we’re just doing 30 numbered companies like in the AcYear to lessen the amount of plebes living on top of each other.

To clarify, would the following be the format for letters?

MIDN John Doe
# Company, X Platoon (since platoons aren't going to be assigned)
Annapolis, MD 21412

Yes, except there is a platoon number instead of a company number.

Worst case scenario, all Plebes are required to send a letter home within the first few days of training. By then parents will likely already have their plebe’s address, but if they don’t they’ll get it in the mail.

So how they have it now is how we should have it sent. The only reason I ask is that USNA's website has the following:

Midn John Doe
____ Company, ____ Platoon
Annapolis, MD 21412
Well, since they are slightly changing the system this year (as mentioned above), I would think that the way it's written is correct.

Well here is how the email from the Academy has it written:
MIDN John Doe
Company 4 Platoon
Annapolis, MD 21412

Curious that they still keep both the company and platoon despite there being only one number but if that's what they want so be it!

This is on USNA site and I would just input the info the mids got in their email. Leave blank the info you don't have 1593534458207.png

First package sent off and received-
No platoon numbers just company number needed for this summer.

MIDN 4/C John Doe ( I did not have 4/C on my first package but it is recommended)
# Company
Annapolis, MD 21412

Note- some post offices get confused by the lack of street name but they just need to override that is what has been shared and been successful. I mailed my first package from Annapolis so I that was not a problem locally.

21412 is the midshipman-only zip on the Yard. You don’t even have to put “Naval Academy.”

21402 is associated with street addresses of USNA buildings and residential quarters on the Yard.

If anyone gets confused, just tell them it’s a military base address format for the on-base PO with the “student mailboxes.”

+a million to @Capt MJ well, just because she is once again correct and I think she deserves this many affirmations for her sage advice. Our tiny rural post office had no idea what or where USNA was but once I said ‘military installation’ they pushed magic buttons and all was well. Can now confirm delivery.
