Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

So kind of random question but can someone explain the food situation on I Day? I’m very confused and want to make sure my DD doesn’t starve. Should we be making sure we have food for her after the oath ceremony? I keep getting ads to get boxed lunches but we’ve already bought tickets for the parents bbq. I assumed the plebes would be fed but if that is incorrect, I’d love to understand more so we are able to give her what she may need! Thanks.
They will feed the plebes. My son didn’t want anything big after the ceremony so we went to mid store and bought some snacks. He didn’t eat any of it - nerves etc.

Ask your plebe what they might want - sandwiches etc. Nothing that will stain the uniform and cause them grief after the doors shut.

Water or Gatorade will be wanted.

Each in processing is different. My daughter took 6.5 hours to process. She was offered granola bars only in Alumni Hall, went right to the oath. When we were with her after the oath, she was starving and super thirsty. She ate half the sandwich we had for her, but nerves also kicked in and she didn’t want to eat too much. We did the bbq lunch, but still had sandwiches too just in case anyone else around us needed anything. We felt it was better to be over prepared and glad we did based on her in processing experience.

You will not see your plebe from when she walks into Alumni Hall until she is released after the oath ceremony for the brief farewell.

She will not truly starve in the literal sense or fade away or collapse from malnutrition that day. If she eats a balanced dinner the night before and gets some protein, carbs and fluid intake in the morning before reporting, she will be well prepared. They make every effort to get them something to eat for lunch and there will be something to eat for dinner. It might be rushed or skimpy if they get off-schedule, but she will survive. The training begins right then - missing the occasional meal while at sea during a heavy operational period happens. You roll with it, learn to eat on the fly and press on.

Now, after years of seeing I-Day posts/advice here, at a minimum, have a towel to sit on in that white uniform, plenty of napkins, something cool to drink, and a meal bar, power bar, sandwich available in case she is hungry, is all you need. The Induction Day experience hits everyone differently, some are tied up in knots with emotion, anxiety, excitement, stress, etc. Some may be ravenous out of sheer nerves, some may not want anything or just want to nibble. You know her best, but you may not know what you are going to see. I-Day is like nothing they have experienced before, and reality has set in.

Be flexible, don’t over-worry on this point, have some options, no need to overdo it. You’ll see a range of advice. Choose what seems sensible to you.

Excellent. This is what I thought so having you confirm makes me feel much better. Thank you!!

My son, a big athlete (read: hearty appetite) also missed the meals due to getting tied up behind people.

Yea they are fed and yea they will survive. But my hungry guy ate his subway sandwich in about 3 bites, and downed the ice cold soda pop. Imo, have it if you can. And don’t worry if you can’t.

PRO tip: hydrate the days prior, and eat protein for breakfast. Even if they aren’t hungry. Bacon and eggs for the win! Or crab cakes hollandaise. Or all of the above!!

The last beast I have to tackle is the 150-page SF-86 form. Would you recommend I print the whole thing and fill out? Thanks
I think it’s easier to type out what you can online and print it off that way. I finished that form a few days ago and would do about 20 pages at a time and print them off. You probably also don’t have to fill every page out so that makes it easier.

Since this is your initial sf86, be familiar with it (been doing this for 30 years).
Suggestions:
With sf86 in pdf, print it, back to back. This is a draft only so use a pencil.
Be honest and accurate as much as possible. Don't worry so much about information gaps. You will sit down with a federal investigator later; provide updates then. After filling the blanks, make a copy and give it to your parents as a backup. As you go over the pages, at least 30% don't apply. If you don't have enough ink or paper, email the pdf to staples or office Depot.
Officedepot@printme.com
Staples@printme.com
Print it there. The code for printing back to back is 1-->2.

They get stuff to eat usually during processing, but depending on processing queue, it could be minimal. The BBQ is for the family and I recommend as there will also be info tents and tables next to it on hospital point. We had left a cooler under a tree in our designated area off Stribling Walk earlier so we didn't have to carry all day. After oath, we easily found a patch of open grass in that area to lay a blanket (no grass stains). I brought a towel for DS to lay on lap while he drank and ate. I had turkey hoagie for DS and waters and clear colored gatorade. Stay away from anything greasy or colored drinks. Less that can stain the better. Alumni Assoc took care of solo Plebes... He normally was a big eater, but he really enjoyed just sitting and having a couple ice cold waters and only finished 1/2 his hoagie. Last thing your Plebe needs if to return with stained White works.

Hey! I was a plebe(now youngster!) On my I-day I did not eat for a while. They gave us a cliff bar to munch on right after we processed, but after that I didn't eat until after the ceremony. I recommend getting a sandwich and water from Jimmy John's. That was a life saver

My dude was definitely hungry as he barely got anything to eat during the day, and had maybe half a bagel and OJ in the morning. He ate his whole deli sandwich we got from our local Jewish deli.

This is for those members of the Class of '27 that will be reporting solo on I-Day. After the oath of office last year, a USNA Parent's Club and other support groups provided snacks, drinks and Chick-fil-a sandwiches by the Mexican Monument on Stribling Walk. These support groups know that not every plebe will have family there. I imagine it will be close to the same this year. Try and take advantage of this thoughtful gesture before marching into Mother B from Stribling Walk and hearing those big bronze doors slam behind you.

All of this. Take pictures in your new white works and send them home. Trust me, when you become an OG, you will want them. Your family will appreciate getting to be a part of the day however they can.

I went without my family, but through connections had what would become my sponsor family. They took photos of me and had the film developed (it was a thing back in the day) and sent them to my parents. They called when they got to their house and told them I was good and safe. It made them feel better. There was a pic of me and my sponsor brother in white works. To this day it is framed in both of our houses in our offices. It’s a special photo for us decades later.

Where do you sign up/pay for BBQ at Hospital Point?
