Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

A little stressed. I have a waiver for self harm which was done over a year and a half ago. Yesterday during some pool basketball, I got scratched bad on my arm. I'm unsure of how this will look when I show up on IDay. Any recommendations? If its a concern I would do a polygraph or any sort of test to prove that it was just a scratch from one of my friends
.
I concur with @justdoit19 on the note from your friend …. Think of it like a bookend … it is support “IF” you need it.

And take my scripture quote for what it is … to help nudge you away from any noise and distractions … to center yourself … and to maintain your course.

I’m sure that this has been asked and answered elsewhere, but what are the “rates” that incoming Plebes need to have memorized by arrival at I-Day?

I know that DS will be issued a copy of Reef Points, and that looms large over the following seven weeks, but has DS missed receiving a sheet or packet that includes other material that must be memorized before arrival?

Many thanks!

I believe this information is addressed in the Permit to Report (PTR).

On this page: https://www.usna.edu/PermitToReport/index.php

Go to the "Permit to Report Information Booklet." I also attached a screenshot of the relevant page here.

To NYNavyDad:

This is from the USNA Public Affairs (also read and reread the PTR Letter):
When reporting for Iday, Plebes are expected to know verbatim the mission of the Naval Academy, the administrative Chain of Command, and the first three General Orders of a Sentry.

Another quick question. It says in the PTR checklist to bring your social security card. Is that right? Do they keep it? Is a notarized copy acceptable? Not interested in losing that card any time soon. Thanks for any clarification anyone might have.

So I guess I didn’t order the box lunch in time. Are there good alternatives to this? Or should I buy extra sandwiches at the airport for I day?

Yes, that is correct. They gave my DS his backpack back that evening that he put his wallet in, where he kept his SS Card. I got it back from him at PPW. Please be sure to scan a front and back copy of it. Plus make a colored photo copy of It. I would not risk a notarized copy if it is not stated as an acceptable option.

Anyone have any thoughts/opinions on 20th company? Go Samurais!!!
Haha understood!!
Happy you took my response in the lighthearted manner it was given.

As you get ready for I-day and beyond, here are some Samurai quotes to ponder:

"It is good to face challenges in your youth. He who has never suffered will not sufficiently temper his character." - Yamamoto Tsunetomo.

"Observation and perception are two separate things; the eye that observes is stronger, the eye that perceives is weaker." - Miyamoto Musashi

“The Samurai always has to rise and move on, because new challenges will come.” - Lyoto Machida

"Singlemindedness is all-powerful."

I send only the very best to you and your classmates as you start your journey.

For What Its Worth: Social Security Cards are replaceable. I ended up needing to replace all three kids plus my own and was able to do it with a visit to the nearest Social Security Office. Its been a while but we needed to bring our Birth Certificates among other things and I had to get THOSE replaced for all three kids before doing the SS Cards.
.
Not a fast process but it is do-able.
.
And for the record, I have NEVER EVER needed my Social Security card when starting a new job including my own I day. It is always in the instructions to bring but my experience is that as long as you KNOW your SSN and write it down on applicable forms then nobody actually
asks to see it. Your mileage may vary

Can additional BBQ tickets be purchased now for I Day? If so, does anyone have a link? TIA!

FWIW, when I replaced one for my son, I was told that there was a lifetime limit of 10 original SSN cards. So don't make a habit of losing them.

We found last week that my DS’s Social Security Card was missing from our lock box. We immediately applied for a replacement card (not new number), but it has not arrived. We were given a “SSNAP Printout for Replacement Social Security Number Card”, which appears to be a temporary card. Will this satisfy the Academy? Has anyone on the forum experienced this situation? Thanks!

It should be fine. Just bring that paper work. Since you don't have an original issued SS Card, you have no other option at this point.

Bring the temp, as I said above, I've never actually had to show it as I've had my number memorized since childhood. Tell your son to bring it out only if asked, don't ask for trouble by asking if its OK before they even ask for it.

If you have a valid US passport, passport card, or a certified copy of your birth certificate, then you don't need your SS card when starting a new job. But for a US citizen, one of those is required for I-9 purposes in order to establish your eligibility to work.

If your current or previous employers did not require documentation, then they were doing it wrong. If your employer accepted your verbal recitation of your SSN number, then whoever certified the I-9 was guilty of perjury.

I have showed passport or Birth Cert at times but as I've said, I've never been asked to show a Social Security Card and by now that is a LOT of different jobs.
