Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

Does anyone know how to handle lunch “access” to King Hall Friday of PPW?
Plebes want Off. The. Yard. And out of uniform into Navy PT year in your nice cool AC with social media in hand or head straight to their place of choice outside the gates, where if they have to be in uniform, they might as well be not eating in the place they have eaten institutional food for weeks straight. You can eat a meal with them in King Hall at Parents Weekend when they are a 2/c. They will be relaxed and confident, know the ropes, take charge of the schedule mode.

Be flexible to what your plebe wants. It may be just a long shower and a relaxed catch up in Navy PT gear with his favorite takeout. Some social media, a long nap in cool sheets, back into uniform and maybe a movie or nice dinner enroute back to the Yard.

This is the first time they will be out of sight and hearing of detailers, away from all the sweaty stress and daily routine. They need a change of routine for “mental floss!”

I know you want to see where your mid and thousands of other mids eat - make it okay for him or her not to do that, not to take you in the Mid Store or tour you around. There will be other weekends and visits.

I know the weekend is Plebe Parents Weekend, but it’s really PLEBE Escape & Recovery Feel Like Myself Again Weekend.

Probably best just to ask your plebe what they want and not pre-schedule anything for them.

> Parents ...look at the threads about all the great places to eat in Annapolis... Eat in King Hall or DTA ? Really a simple decision. While it may seem cool to eat in King Hall as a Parent, it is really just institutional chow being devoured by Midshipman eager to move on to their next thing....

... so on the way to DS's room during PPW, we went thru Kings Hall. The parents and Plebes were eating and the mood was less than festive nor joyous... as if eating in a convent. Celebrate somewhere else, definitely not Kings Hall.

We got our first letter from plebe daughter yesterday. It was written over the course of three days. The main theme was lack of sleep and a desperate need for a long, hot shower. Once we pick her up during PPW, it will be a direct drive to our Aibnb for sleep, shower, and sushi and snuggles with her dog.

Cue first letter allergies. I may dig out our son’s and read them again in support.

The Four S Strategy: sleep, shower (bet shower comes first), sushi, snuggles.

And not necessarily in that order! 😉 Funny thing is, many detailers crave exactly the same thing. 😂
One of our sponsor mids is a second class detailer. They were given an overnight, were able to leave after dinner and had to be back by noon formation. Threw laundry in, headed for shower with a slice of cake in hand, back upstairs to eat dinner, tended laundry, cuddled with boxers on sofa and watched part of a movie, headed for bed, big breakfast, broke out the blender to make a fruit smoothie and then a round of milkshakes for all (yay), headed back to Yard. Took some “vocal rest,” but shared some hilarious plebe stories. And frustrations. There is always “that plebe” in every group.
