I am a junior in high school and hoping to get accepted into the NROTC marine option full scholarship program. I am wondering what kind of job awaits me after I graduate from the program should I get accepted. I know that I am commissioned as an active duty officer but what does that entail? (immediately being sent to fight on the front lines?)
Any help would be appreciated

No, you are not immediately sent to "the front."

All NROTC/MO graduates must attend "The Basic School" following commissioning. It is there that the beginning of your career path as a Marine Officer will be determined.

Thank you sir, I very much appreciate your help and clarification.

While attending TBS, late in the cycle, you will list your MOS preferences, in order of preference. The class is divided into thirds and then your position on the OML, within your third determines what your MOS is (of those available). So it can be a bit of a crap shoot. Infantry slots are volunteer only and aviation slots can be hard to get without a previous aviation contract. The last I knew they were begging for infantry. Here's a list of officer MOSs. https://www.usmcofficer.com/the-basic-school/marine-officer-mos-list/
You attend MOS school immediately, or soon after, TBS.

Just so you know DS got his third choice and is serving as a communications officer in Okinawa.

For Marine Option it is possible to contract for aviation prior to commissioning. Usually around your junior year. The other MOS are selected after TBS as @kinnem mentioned above

As I understand it, there are some majors that OML is not an issue. If you're interested for instance in computer science and want to become a Cyberspace Officer, the Marines are hot for this area and would send you to cyber school after college. No guessing and no crap shoot. Speak to a recruiter to find critical jobs the Marines are trying to fill and where the OML is not an issue.
