Questions about "Instructions to Appointees"

Checklist

CTUMA2,

Thanks for the inprocessing checklist. With so many requested items arriving in separate BFE's and via email, it sometimes becomes difficult to keep track of everything.

Checklist

One more thing to add to CTUMA2's paperwork checklist:

1)Form O-143 Record of Emergency Data- To be mailed along with #2- by June 11th
2)SGLV 8286 Insurance- To be mailed along with #1- by June 11th
3)Completed Immunization Records -ASAP
4)Uniform Measurements -ASAP
5)Spectacle and Contacts Form- by June 1st
6)Cadet Sponsor Program Questionnaire- by June 8th
7)Form 4428 Tattoo, Brands, Body Markings- by June 8th

To Bring to the Academy:
Copies of all of the above (just in case)
8) SF 86- Security Clearance
9) Airmanship Program Medical Screening Questionnaire
10)Airmanship Program 1042 Medical Recommendation
11)TSWF Encounter Worksheet
12)Pharmacy Cadet In-Processing
13) As part of the SF86, bring an original of one of the following: birth certificate, passport, certificate of citizenship, or naturlization certificate

Is the spectacle and contacts form the one that deals with AOG membership?

No, it is the one that came in an email with some other medical forms. It has a pretty picture of the glasses you will be issued and required to wear during BCT (that is if you wear glasses or contacts.

If you need the email, send me a PM with your email and I will forward it.

I dont wear glasses or contacts so do you think that this is why I didn't receive that paper?

No, you probably didn't receive the email at all since the spectacle and contacts form was just one among several other forms that everyone must complete and bring to I-Day. The email was sent out about a week and a half ago and several people did not receive it.

Just PM kdc246 or myself and either of us will forward you the email with all the paperwork.

Hi BR,
You sent in the bank paperwork and got an account, right? If you didn't get the info back on your account, then you can call and get your account and routing number. That's really all you need to have with you.

Here's what DS and I have learned. The establishment of the account is in advance for your direct deposit pay, which you don't really get until Aug. The bank won't issue you a debit card until the academic year starts. However, you will have an account number, an address where parents can wire you money, and a place where you'll be reimbursed for travel (if that applies). When the bank sends you your acct#, they ask for authorization to cover you for overdrafts and if you want a credit card.

Other parents have also said that there is an ATM in each of the dorms/cadet barracks.

In the Appointee Handbook you are asked to bring $250 with you to purchase things you'll need prior to your pay kicking in. Based on advice I read from other parents in other posts, my DS will keep his local account open until the academic year starts. Then he can transfer the money from his local (student) account to his cadet account and it will be all his once he gets his AF Bank debit card.

Other than that, you Basic Cadets will probably have more details explained to you once you arrive.

If anyone else knows more, please add info.

YorkieMom75 You've been so helpful - thank you very much!

I gave Armed Forces Bank on AFA a call, and they told me that they'll send out a letter with the banking/routing number on June 1.

Arrival Times

Not really a question, but rather a statement:
The arrival times are posted on the bed/breakfast registration pages (before you actually click to register). I am not sure when it was posted, but I noticed it this morning...
http://usafa.org/Connect/Bed_and_Breakfast
and then scroll down to the part after the host registration part.

I see that arrival times are listed by squadron...when are squadrons assigned?

Next Weds?

I see that arrival times are listed by squadron...when are squadrons assigned?

I think/remember reading something about the 13th when all of us find out, but if they are posting the arrival times today, then I hope that they'll have our assignments out by next Monday. But if not anything, expect the 13th. One of my classmates called admissions and his counselor said "squadron assignments have not been emailed out yet."

We attended the USAFA Colorado Parents Club BBQ last Saturday and they told us that assignments and times will be released on the 13th.

It is in the instructions to appointees on page one, under arrival. It posts this link http://www.usafa.edu/df/dfr/?catname=dfr1 and states that it will be posted on the website AFTER June 13th. It will have squadron information and a reporting time. It also stresses bringing everything(paperwork wise) that you are supposed to or suffer great delays.

Assignments

I'm not sure if everyone's assignments have been posted, but (I guess) you can start checking. It'll be under your Application Status. Have a great weekend!

*For BCT, not sure about first semester...and use your brain, don't post where you will be.

Ahhh! This is so exciting! I can't believe it is actually happening! Thanks for sharing!

Assuming its like last year, for BCT, you will get an alphabetical squadron. For example, A (Aggressors), B (Barbarians), C (Cobras) etc. all the way through J (Jaguars) for a total of 10 BCT squadrons. Each of these squadrons will be broken down into 4 flights, for a total of 40 flights.

Then for the academic year, basics from Aggressors will be assigned to squadrons 1, 2, 3 or 4, Barbarians will join 5, 6, 7, or 8, Cobras will go to 9 through 12, etc. alphabetically all the way to Jaguars (37, 38, 39, 40) until all new cadets are placed in a squadron. I'm pretty sure your BCT flight stays together as you go to your new squadron, so cadets will go to their academic year squadron with approx. 25 or so of the basics they spent most of BCT with.

Hopefully that makes sense! :shake: And hopefully the AFA hasn't changed it from last year!
