Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

There are several presidential appointments already. However it’s not over until your receive a TWE
I’m going to retract that statement, because I’m not sure if they were actually charged to the Presidential nomination or the other nom sources.

Based on the size of that last tidal wave of USAFA appointments, should we just expect an extremely slow trickle from here to May or do those who know patterns think there will be a couple more mini waves left?

The vast majority (I almost sent mast vajority... I am tired) of appointments are given out in mid-March through Early April with some rejections being given out along the way, and then it kind of switches. Mid-April is when mass rejections go out with some appointments being given out along the way. Sometimes people get an appointment after getting rejected. It's not very predictable and kind of chaotic. Like entropy.
Why would mass rejections go out so late?

They have new system this year. Look at last year USNA and you'll see the same situation. A whole new system mean bugs and they can't afford to mess up every appointment. Easier to wait two extra weeks to ensure success. Air force core values do include " excellence in all we do" I know it's frustrating waiting.

Mid-April mass rejections is my experience from last year, and I assume it will be the same this year as admissions is catching up quickly. I assume it is because up until a certain point they are not sure where the line is drawn from order or merit. Once they get the classes almost finalized they can begin to be confident that a rejection will be a rejection, because the class is closer to being filled. Personally, I would be surprised if mass rejections went out later than 20 April. Last year it was 15 Apr 21.

It already happens every year, albeit rarely, where they give out a rejection and then later have to overturn it and send either a full offer of direct appointment or a USAFAPS/FFS offer, so I can start to imagine how much more often this would happen if they started predicting who wouldn't make the cut in March. I assume they delay it this long to minimize how often that situation occurs.

Also rejections based on who refuses. If someone declines an offer the 1,101 person suddenly now has a spot. Falcons are the same way with people who are for sure not getting in because of something ( my case). If someone rejects the offer then they send out another wave. It's why we had another falcon recieve his scholarship in may!

From what I understand and learning from the veterans on this forum, a decline does not equal another offer. Given the high yield at all the academies and an admissions team that has done this many, many times, they can estimate with pretty good accuracy how many declines and reflect that estimation in the class build up. Im not saying adjustments aren't made in response to declines, especially at the regional level or slate level, however I think this is the exception rather than the rule.

Member is reporting themself as the appointed cadet or it's a parent reporting their son (DS) or daughter (DD) received the appointment

Received my FFS today! Bit disappointed and very confused. I have Presidential and AFROTC scholarships at Purdue, Embry Riddle, Rensselaer and other colleges for Aerospace Engg. Not sure what to decide? Take up FFS and reapply to USAFA next year or go the ROTC route? :confused1: What a torture!

I would avoid the word torture

Sorry for using a strong and inappropriate word. Did not mean for it come out in a wrong sense.
It’s no big deal! Just remember there are people who don’t have either of the opportunities you have been blessed with. I can’t even define the words I would use to describe how I would feel if I got an FFS scholarship.

Here’s a story I find somewhat relevant:

A few years ago, ADM McRaven (Ret) toured my father’s work’s office and I was able to tag along. There was a period when we were waiting to move on to the next stage of the tour. It was just me, the Admiral and one of his aides. He talked to me like he would anyone else. A relative nobody’s eleven-year-old for almost 30 minutes. His down to earth attitude gave me a perspective on humility I’ll remember forever, and I think it’s why he will go down in history as one of America’s greatest contemporary leaders.

Humility goes a long way, even for the smallest interactions. God bless you and your hard work to get that scholarship and good luck in your career of service!
