So, I head out to BMT on September 13. After BMT I plan on preparing myself to be a competitive LEAD applicant. In high school, I was an exchange student for a year, which caused my GPA to drop. I graduated with a 3.3. I did a year of college before enlisting and ended with a 2.6. How can I make myself a competitive applicant?
My questions are:
1. How competitive is LEAD?
2. What were your SAT/ACT scores, GPA, and XCs (on and off base)?
3. How can I get good recommendations

Any other advice would be welcome. I turn 20 in November and I'm feeling really crunched for time.
 
First, relax. You are not crunched for time. You have A LOT of time. You need to focus on the immediate obstacles, like I mentioned in your other thread.

1. Any information about the competitiveness of the LEAD program will be purely anecdotal. It. changes. every. single. year. Different people apply, the AF has different manning requirements, the Academy has different admissions goals.

2. 1880 SAT - 3.7 HS GPA - 3.9 College GPA (1 year). I volunteered off base when I could. I did my job as best as I could.

3. ?? There is no magical answer. Be a good Airman, get good recommendations. It really is that simple.

Apply, regardless of whether or not you think you will get an appointment. I was sure I would not because of certain circumstances. Turns out I was wrong.

PS. Don't tell your MTI you want to apply to the Air Force Academy.
