Questions Thread

If I score above average on the flex hang (not the pullup) will that be a pass? I hate that I'm not able to do a pullup, bit I'm hoping everything else will make up for it.

Congats!

From http://www.usna.edu/admissions/cfainstructions.htm:

If a woman can successfully perform 1 correct cadence pull-up, it is to her advantage on the scoring scale to use the pull-up result instead of a flexed-arm hang. The scale score (0-100) for 1 cadence pull-up is higher than the highest scale score for a maximum score on the flexed-arm hang.

I believe "admissable" is more like "more competitive" and above "competitive." I am pretty sure I read that somewhere on here.

I have also heard the term "qualified" used. From the context, I suspect it comes before competitive and admissable... do you know? Is this a reference to WCS or just to standardized test scores?

Biancajoy, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. I was slightly under the flexed arm hang average and passed just fine. Good luck with your CFA!

For future reference:
R-Day is on the last Monday in June. :thumb:

I know I'm late on answering this, but qualified on the database usually only refers to the medical or CFA status. For the overall terms, the ones used (besides things like "WP closed file" or "Medically disqualified") are Screened (meaning not viewed as a viable candidate at all), Risk (could possibly improve enough to be a real candidate but at this point really wouldn't be considered one), competitive, and admissible. I tried for a year or so to figure out the difference (looking at all the candidate's files in my state) between competitive and admissible before asking the Regional Commander personally. Who replied that in two years he hasn't been able to figure it out either! But yes, those terms seem to be based almost exclusively on test scores/academics (ie class rank), which is why you'll occasionally see a risk candidate get in - because their EC's are so strong.

Thanks!

West Point Admissions is an official source of information, while the parents club is not.

This later date corresponds to another later date I got from the Public Affairs office, affirmation day for the Yuks will be August 19, 2012. This is the Sunday immediately before the first day of classes at the end of re-orgy week.

If you want to be absolutely sure, contact the Admissions office.

What uniforms do cadets wear and for what occasions?

Also, since the ASU Blues are set to replace most (maybe all, I'm not sure) dress uniforms by 2014, does that mean that newer classes (class of 2015 and later) will not be issued/ allowed to wear dress whites?

If you are referring to India Whites, it is a cadet-only uniform and its wear is not affected by the ASU. The white dress uniform, while technically an authorized Army uniform, has traditionally only been worn at USMA graduations for about the last 20 years, and only by Sergeants Major and flag officers. The India White uniform will not be affected, as it is NOT the same uniform as Army Dress Whites.

As an officer, you would not have been "issued" Army Whites (you're not issued any dress uniform, you buy it) anyway nor would you have had occasion to wear it.

Thank you so much for the clarification. Glad to know that there's another white uniform. Looking forward to it!

India whites is a uniform you'll wear only about 3 or 4 times in your four years, as an average cadet.

In rough order of usage:

  • White over Grey- White shirt, Grey Trousers, white hat
  • As for class- Black shirt, grey trousers, Grey garrison hat
  • Gym Alpha- PT shirt, gym shorts, white socks, running shoes, windbreaker
  • ACU (not the right name)- Army Combat Uniform (class C??) Worn Thursdays and in field. And apparently to football games during blizzards and in CO.
  • Dress Grey- Grey jacket (no fancy buttons), grey pants, grey hat
  • Full Dress Grey- Fancy grey jacket, grey pants, tar bucket hat

And then the India whites... I probably missed some, or mislabeled them. But this is a representative list based on what our plebe has communicated

Another question, when are plebes allowed to leave campus and come home? Are they allowed to come home Thanksgiving, Winter break, and Spring Break?

All cadets get leave for Thanksgiving, Winter break, and spring break. They are much shorter than the average college. In addition to that, plebes get 1 base weekend pass and 1 performance weekend pass per semester.
