Remaining NROTC Boards

For MIT, if an NROTC scholarship is offered, there is a good chance of selection. I don't want to speak to how that PNS arranges that, but he has serious skills.

Remember, in the pattern of the stoic, we embrace obstacles as opportunities to excel. We control what we can, and our character remains unshakeable. So said Epictetus. 🙂 everyone here will think I am drunk.
Well I will allow my young adult to continue in the Stoic tradition of "trusting the process," but I thank you for the reply! Not sure it will save my fingernails from excessive biting, but it may help!

He may not hear a positive or negative reply until April. He should accept the AROTC scholarship as it is non-binding. In fact none of these are binding. If an NROTC scholarship or USNA appointment comes along He can accept it with no problem. AROTC, or NROTC without a scholarship are not bad backup plans.
Question, so my official selection letter for NROTC said I must accept the scholarship by 2/16/22 or I'll be withdrawn, however the email I received from NROTC announcing my scholarship selection says "Formal acceptance of your scholarship is required by the date (2/16/22) indicated on your Official Letter, but not later than 15 MAY in order to confirm a seat in New Student Indoctrination (NSI)" So do I have up to May 15th to accept or was it February 16th?

I believe it's 2/16. Since accepting is non-binding I would accept immediately in any case. If your circumstances change you are not obligated in any way. If you're worried about school acceptances they are pretty good about letting you transfer the scholarship.

Thanks! I accepted today, I just hope I didn't lose the scholarship now, very confusing, why say you must accept by 2/16 or be withdrawn, but have up to 5/15 to accept.

Is that the NTAG person who is the commanding officer of the regional group? OUr NTAG has had 3 different leaders in 3 months so they do not seem on top of it.
Apologies for the delayed response. Been a busy few days. I'm not quite sure who you mean by "the NTAG person". The terminology has changed a bit since my DS went through this in fall '17. NTAG is the Navy Talent Acquisition Group, back when DS went through, they were just called recruiting regions. The commanding officer (CO) of the NTAG is the one who offers the ISR scholarships, but the first contact DS had about his potential ISR was from a Petty Officer who had DS fill out some additional paperwork and set up the interview with the CO. It would seem unusual for a NTAG to have three different COs in such a short time, but something could have happened that necessitated that. And I would have no idea what the training involves before taking that position. Best of luck to your DS navigating this. I know it is a stressful time. I know for me the waiting was harder than it seemed for DS.

Just wanted to send a quick note to mention that board results should be coming out this Tuesday. Tomorrow is a holiday or folks would hear by then. And there's a chance that if people check in to the netfocus site, it could update by this evening or tomorrow, but I am guessing at that.

To answer the potential follow up question, if I know the results will I send them to people......I can't do that, so please don't ask.

My first post here...

So, my son had his packet in over a month ago but when we log in to look at it we see:
Should we be concerned? I've emailed and tried calling the chief listed on the notice but no reply.

EDIT: Moderator removed image since it contained identifying personal information. Since GWU PNS chimed in I doubt the image is needed anymore.

It appears as though the majority of items required for the package to move into the board are awaiting processing. If you haven't heard from the recruiter, it may be worth reaching out to the NTAG and asking for assistance. The listing for NTAG's is at this link:

Pretty sure NTAG Carolina in Raleigh is the one you want. Sometimes there is a lag for the websites to update, but I am not accustomed to seeing that many items listed in the awaiting processing list. They may have changed the process on the Navy Recruiting side of the house.

Thanks, so, I reached out... what a cluster... the Sr. Chief I talked to told me the chief in charge was on leave and that my son's packet was not complete... He gave me a list of things that were missing that we had done months ago (even the interview and evaluations)... I sent him emails from that chief and a PO2 that was working on it as well that said we were complete... He is looking into it... So, I'm working this situation, very frustrated.... What would you suggest I do, I'm an Army vet and wife is active duty are officer but we are new to the Navy... Who do I call to get this fixed or at least make sure that the people who dropped the ball are addressed... Thoughts?

You could ask to speak with the CMDCM or the XO and ask for their assistance. I would say shoot me a PM but I see you don't have the number of posts and time required for that. The netfocus portal also has an email for customer support and you could try that. At least someone knows about the situation now.

First post in this site and a lot of great information!

Been seeing plenty of folks with near-perfect SATs asking nervously about their chances of picking up a scholarship and congrats to their success.

My question is would a person with only a 1270 SAT still be in the running or should I stop refreshing my status on the NETC site? (GPA, AP courses, activities and clubs are on par with everyone else on here)
Thank you.

First few boards, the average SAT score is around upper 1400s and into the 15s. But I can tell you there have been selectees with SAT scores right around 1050. SAT is not an all or nothing. The highest weighted scores come from teacher evals, guidance counselor, and the officer interview.

With that being said, there were some server issues this morning, so results have slowed. Still hoping something pops today. But everytime I make a prediction the internet makes a liar out of me.

Question, in this case if they checked the box as Yes their application will not be looked until April? even when it says "if not selected for the national scholarship?
Wow, I almost never drop track on a target, but I did in this case. I had a sticky note on my computer monitor (poor man's excel sheet) and it said, reply to STEM question. Forgot what the heck I was referring to, but I found you again.

So, if an applicant fills out the regular NROTC scholarship online, AND they check the block saying they are interested in an MSISR scholarship if not selected, AND they listed an HBC or HHE in their college list, AND a PNS or NTAG CO did their interview, then "YES" they get looked at for regular NROTC scholarships and if not selected, they are pulled again for the MSI board.

That was actually a new one for me. So I appreciate the question since it forced me back into the references to find the answer. Every year there's a tweak here and there.

Sorry for the delayed response.
