Remaining NROTC Boards

My portal still reads no decision made. Do the acceptances/denials come in waves throughout the day?

The portals sometimes lag. I have never been able to figure out why. Emails do go out in groups but they should all be out in the next hour or so.

So I am pretty sure you know this but ISR is a horse of a different color. If DD was selected by the NTAG CO, that is almost a certain selection. I don't know why some get word faster than others, but DD could check with her recruiter to see if there is any news.
I do understand ISR (and DD and I both signed the contract) but I guess the delay has me concerned. And her recruiter doesn't generally respond to her emails, at least not regularly. I will say, this board has given me more info on ISR and the scholarship process in general than any other source, so thank you again.

If the recruiter "ghosts" you, sometimes a friendly call to the NTAG can help break the log jam. Recruiters get shuffled around a bit, and it's just not a perfect system unfortunately.

If denied, does applicant get notified? Or does status stay "no decision"?
Denials are sent by letter as opposed to email. I honestly don't know if the portal reflects that or not. The idea is to avoid a sort of cold denial through a portal.

So if you don’t receive an email, should you assume a denial?

No. If you didn't receive an email, you are either on the alternate list or you were a non-select. And if you checked the block for MSI, then you get one more look.

We know that DS is on the alternate list through his interviewing officer that we have stayed in touch with. Two questions please if you will...1. What is the time frame for determining if you receive a scholarship or not and 2. Is there a way to know the chance of receiving a scholarship this year. DS is Navy option. First choice was Texas A&M. Thank you for your time.

So the first question is a bit easier. The final boards are happening in April for MSI and Boost. There is also a regular board going on this week. Once all those have wrapped up, we will have an idea of how close we are to filling all the quotas. But, there are candidates who were offered USNA and NROTC, or USMA and NROTC, or AROTC and NROTC, or any other combo....and as they select, there will be openings. The other factor that can weigh in but not as much, we sometimes see folks that just aren't going to clear a DODMERB or BUMED hurdle. And so as spots open up, the alternate list comes into play.

End of April or I would say by mid May should be all final answers. But this is my first time seeing all the boards through all the cycles. So it could be a little sooner.

As to the chances of getting a scholarship, predicting that is tough. Various candidates are weighing their options right now. And if they all wait till the last minute, then it slows everything else down. And I am not encouraging anyone to rush their decisions. I just wanted to show why things take a while to settle out.

I just checked and no status change 😔.
Make sure you've closed your browser window before checking, so you don't end up seeing data that's stored in the session cache (which would be old data)

I know not hearing until sometime in April will drive some people crazy. However, if you have a well tended backup plan that you're ready to execute, the wait is doable. We pulled it off when DS got a negative reply in mid-April.

So it appears my son did not get a scholarship on this last board because there has no notification, and from what I understand there is a board going on right now- do you know how many scholarships are left? He a late applicant and with the acceptation of his interview which I can not speak for, I know his academics and extracurriculars are solid. I just want to know if his getting a scholarship at this point is realistic or not and if not how quickly should he express that interest after he becomes involved as a college programmer- spring, summer, next fall? He has already been offered a scholarship at Corps of Cadets TAMU which gives instate tuition in addition to the scholarship and starting his involvement already -zoom meeting tonight. My husband and I are both prior Navy so always planning ahead- just want to know at what point he should start looking applying for a scholarship at next year.

Thank you for such a quick response! DS is set up at A&M. He is planning on attending as a programmer if the NROTC doesn't come through. I appreciate your help. This forum has been very helpful.

Our son who is at Texas A&M was notified of a NROTC scholarship in mid April as he was likely on a waitlist as a high school senior. As I recall, you can start applying for NROTC scholarship after first semester and are notified in spring of freshman year. A&M Corps of Cadets have many scholarships, and our son has received small grants from several sources related to the Corps each semester simply by applying through his initial application to A&M and then the general scholarship process for continuing students. He is a native Texas; however, I was surprised at how many of his company (C-2 - Navy/Marine) are from out of state and several have Navy parents. Good Luck!

If no email, then your DS could be an alternate, or as you mention, he may have been a non-select. The final results should come out in the next few weeks. Once i know all the boards are complete I will let people know on the forums.

If he is already accepted at TAMU, I think the best recommendation is to check with the NROTC unit there and see when they start their side load interviews. It varies from unit to unit. Mine are starting up in 2 weeks, but I like to get a jump because it gets busy around end of semester with finals and commissioning. And my interviews are for MIDN 4/C College Programmers. So in your DS case, they tell him to wait until he gets to the unit and then start the process. The TAMU Colonel there has been with TAMU for a long time and will give very good recommendations.

For anyone on an alternate list, are there expected updates dates (maybe each Friday?) to watch out for or is this process completely random?

I wouldn't say regular updates. All the regular boards need to complete. And then alternate selections will occur. It won't be until later April.
