So I am currently in a 2 year college and have already finished my first year. I want to apply to the air force to become an officer, but I see that I would either need to have enough credits for OTS or have to be in a 4 year for ROTC. Do I have to go to another college to apply for ROTC? Please help and let me know what I should do so I can start becoming an officer and take training for a job in the air force and do my service.

In order to be an officer, a person must be a college graduate. 3 ways as I see it. 1). Apply, be admitted, and graduate from the Air Force Academy. 2). Graduate from a 4-year college, then be admitted and complete OTS. I think that you can transfer from your junior college to the 4-year college, just like any other student, after either your 1st or 2nd year. I guess if you are on the 5-year plan, you could transfer when you get your Associates after year 3. 3). Attend AFROTC while in college. Most do this for 4 years, a few for 3 years (with extra summer training before ROTC to make up). You must either transfer to a 4-year college that has an AFROTC unit, or transfer to a 4-year college without AFROTC, that is close to another college that has it. Sometimes these two schools have an agreement where a person can attend classes at one school, and AFROTC at the other. I don’t know if a person can attend junior college and be part of AFROTC at a nearby 4-year college.

It is the end of July. School starts next month. My recommendation is to call the AFROTC unit at the closest 4-year college to where you are. Today. Schedule an in-person meeting to ask your questions. Find out about OTS and ROTC. Find out what classes or what majors are best for your situation. Drive to this meeting THIS WEEK.

One way to think of your academic situation is that your first year at junior college was like a prep school year. Now you are entering your freshman year. If you go the AFROTC route, you might be able to start this school year, or at the semester, or beginning the 2024-25 school year.

Good Luck.
