So I applied for an Army ROTC scholarship and it says on the Selection Status, "Boarded/Under Consideration: This applicant was boarded by out October 2021 Selection Board and unfortunately did not received a scholarship offer from that board. This applicant remains eligible to receive a scholarship for our January 2022 board or our March 2022 board," but at the same time, it says in blue text color, "Winner: This applicant was selected to receive a scholarship offer from our October 2021 selection board. This applicant should go to the “Additional Information” link on their dashboard and review the “Scholarship Winner Instructions” and “Accepting Scholarship and Transfer Request” content." The "Winner" section updated over the weekend because it was not like that last week. I also have not received a winner letter yet or a copy of it on my portal dashboard.

Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

It updated for everyone, no matter if you won or not. If the winner part is not outlined with red, or not on the top of "selection status" you didn't win one. You are considered for next board so good luck!!!

Another related question: I was "Boarded" well before the October Boards. My portal still says "Boarded". How is this different from "Boarded/Under Consideration"?

I have the same question as well! I would assume it is a server issue with delayed changes but it could mean anything!

Does anyone know who I can ask for a definitive answer to this? Seems to indicate that I wasn't even remotely considered for the first boards since I wasn't moved to "under consideration". I sure hope not. My scores, grades, fitness, sports, and resume aren't far off from those that were winners this boarding.
I'm starting to overthink!

How late did you do your interview? If you had your stuff in, you could have had the absolute minimum and still would have been considered. I don't think its a problem with your credibility more likely just the timeframe you got your stuff in.

My interview was my PMS's first one in mid-August. He said he would enter in the notes within a week but I ended up having to back and forth with his office for several weeks to get it done. I was assured it was completed just a few days before boarding began. My file still says 'interview pending'. My file did get changed to 'boarded' right after the boards started. Do you think something's wrong in my file? Who can I reliably inquire with? Thank you all for any help you can give me.

My interview says interview pending too. I can't think of any reason then, I would email support and ask if your file was reviewed, and if not, why.

Just reading some above posts - is it the belief of some posters here that the board reviews every one of the thousands of board-ready applications and are ready for review in the first board? For any of these branches? Where oh where is that coming from?

There are a lot of applications that are started but not finished. But there x number (perhaps a couple thousand? ) that are finalized but ultimately rejected. And in years past a couple thousand scholarships awarded for Army - reportedly less will be offered this year.

In years prior the AROTC board AWARDED about 2000 scholarships, about 750 4 year and 2250 3 year scholarships. There were another x thousand applications completed, reviewed, and ultimately rejected. All depends on the needs of the branch- less scholarships this year.

No, the board does not review each submitted application in each board - how could they review that many and make final decisions? there is some scoring/ grading that helps the board review SOME of the applications and again the first AROTC board is very selective - few scholarships are awarded - did someone else say 183 or so? Whatever it's called OML-like scoring helps SOME applications be reviewed.

Do the math: 40 hours of a board is 2400 minutes. Do you honestly think they are deciding the fate of thousands of applicants each within 6/10ths of a minute like robots with no pause or discussion? Please - who is stating such things with confidence?

So please folks don't get yourself hyped up that you were all reviewed or not reviewed. They can't review 4000 applications in a single week. Be patient, be aware. And hang in there.

On another note, you should consider boarded or boarded / under consideration - as "STILL HAVING A CHANCE / STILL IN IT". Positives- you're still in the running. That's it. My DS went back and forth in these statuses as he was considered and then was awarded a 4 year in board 2- which is pretty much what his interviewer told him would happen.

Allright, the Flintstone quarry shift whistle just blew- good luck all.

For AROTC your file is only reviewed one time - the first board you are boarded on. After your 1st Board your score is compared to other applicants but never looked at again by a human reviewer. Higher score get scholarships. This is why it is so important for AROTC to wait until you have your best package before submitting.

Yes, I agree with you: You’re overthinking this.

If you absolutely need a definitive answer re your status, try directly contacting Cadet Command. But, as they say, that and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee. So frankly, follow the time-honored tradition of waiting patiently.

Also, be careful with your attitude, e.g. “my scores, grades…weren’t far off from winners.” First, that’s awfully presumptuous. You haven’t seen a full profile of everyone who won a scholarship, only anecdotes. Second, it smacks of entitlement. That usually doesn’t go over well in the military.

Yes, waiting is hard. Very hard. But there’s a lot you can be doing to pass the time, such as working on Plan B, C, D, etc.; spending quality time with family and friends; and finishing senior year strong.

You're absolutely right about humility. I honestly didn't mean to come off as entitled so I will check myself in the future. Thank you for the sage advice...let the waiting commence.
