Second Time on the Roller Coaster

Kayaker,

I was not waitlisted last year (received TWE April 5th). They received my college grades January 2nd. Showed up on portal the 7th, thus making it complete. Received MOC call February 6th.

Congratulations, MiddyB, and thank you for sharing your info. I'm not sure when USNA received DS' college grades, but I know he completed his CFA late in January, so we just have to be patient, I suppose.

Kayaker, DS was waitlisted last year, received QNS letter the first week of June. (!) It was a long, long wait. By the time he got the letter, he was in better shape than I. He went off to college with application nearly completed, except for first semester grades. I believe they were received sometime in January, (end of 2nd week?). ( and trust me DS haunted the secretary at his school to make sure they were sent). Phone call came from MOC to inform us re his appointment, first Friday in February. Keeping you and your DS in my thoughts, I know exactly how you are feeling.

Thanks, Sprintmom. Hoping this year will be better for DS even though he completed his application a little late in the game. Las year he was done early but had to wait on a medical waiver. We wondered whether that hurt him last year. Hanging by our toes here...

Kayaker, I feel like we are hanging there with you! I have been down this waiting pathway 4 times, twice with DS and now twice with DD. Crossing our fingers and toes with you and hoping for good news. DD met with the Dean of Admissions in December but was told something like, " too bad you aren't from Iowa".

Thank you, CAmom. Chuckling about the Dean's Iowa comment. We actually have acquaintances who sent their son to an out of state boarding school for at least part of high school in a district that does not have many USNA applicants. According to them, he was the only one to apply for a nomination from that district's congressman. He's now a plebe.

I'm wondering if those on the roller coaster for the second time who have received appointments (Congratulations!) were wait listed last year. Also, when was your application file 100% completed, if you're willing to share?
My DS also received TWE last year, around the time of the mass mailing- March 22nd (I checked back to the "Still in the game thread"). He started his re-application in the summer, got his LORs in early but his final HS grades and first semester college grades all went in 1st week in January. So I would say his application was complete when college transcipt got there- maybe Jan 6 or so. His BGO felt he was late wi/ HS numbers so we were less hopeful. DS is NROTC college programmer (he received NROTC scholarship second time around after turn down last year as well). Guess better college numbers (GPA) and persistence paid off.

Thanks, jsmom. There must be some real celebration going on in your house this week! I know it's unrealistic to expect anything from USNA this soon since DS didn't complete his CFA until late January. I hope that delay doesn't hurt his chances...

Hang on Kayaker! My understanding is that the college applicants are not reviewed until the end of January. We are all praying for you! DS found out via phone call from senator's office Jan. 30. Hold on!

BGO told me yesterday that a college reapplicant from my home area (that I sort of knew) got an appointment already...haven't heard back yet...a little discouraging. :/

Kayaker, I agree with Spelly. We heard Board was end of Jan. We got MOC phone call lateFri evening on 2/5. we were told the BFE's were going out 2/12. between winter storms and school closings the mail may be delayed, and your MOC may not call with the news. Hopefully you'll be hearing something soon. In the meanwhile, I'll keep you and DS front and foremost in my prayers.

2/12? Does this apply to everyone?

I'm sorry, that information I just don't know. Don't know if that's just college reapplicants, or all applicants, just know that while we received phone call telling us re appointment , we havent yet received BFE.

Thank you Spelly and Sprintmom! Hanging on here! Mid18, hold on; the wait will be over soon. I hope your wait ends happily!

DD received the TWE last March. She reapplied, but with college classes and whatnot, she was slow getting her stuff in. She only sent in her essay Jan 30 :bang:
However, she received a TWE with an LOA on Feb 11. Her contingency was an updated DoDMERB form. She received the letter from DoDMERB on the 12th, saying "Qualified". So now we are just waiting for the BFE.

Congrats. CatChaser! Still waiting here. I haven't noticed any new posts on the Appointment thread, so maybe the snow has slowed down the process? Or folks aren't posting? Just realized DS had to do the DoDMERB update too -- haven't seen a letter from DoDMERB stating he's "Qualified." No LOA either. Yikes!

Yesterday a letter dated Feb. 17 from DoDMERB arrived. It states that DS is DQ'ed for the same condition he was DQ'ed for last year. Last year USNA granted a waiver; so did NOTC. I thought medical decisions were good for two years, but maybe not? Maybe just medical qualifications? I posted this question on the DodMERB forum. Meanwhile, DS told me this morning that his BGO contacted him last week to let him know his application was boarded. I'm assuming it was boarded either Feb. 13 or the Friday before that (if I read correctly that Boards are typically on Fridays). Wondering how that works in light of DoDMERB's Feb. 17 DQ. I suggested to DS that he contact his Admissions Regional Director about the waiver question, but he's in the middle of midterms -- I feel so badly for him having to think about this while working so hard. While I'm doing my best to keep my "patient pants" on (to borrow a phrase from another thread), he's got his own special pants to wear, I suppose. We think this happened last year too (DQ following the boarding of DS's application file). DH thinks the DQ is what did him in with USNA last year -- though I have tried to assure him based on things I have read on the forum that medical DQs don't hold an otherwise qualified and competitive candidate back if a waiver comes through. I would appreciate any insight this forum's experts have to share about the second time around waiver and the medical DQ following a board.

Funny that you got the DQ again. Maybe a waiver works differently and is a year by year thing. DS got a letter last year telling him he was "too fat" and we had to send in a BMI form to verify his body fat was less than 20% or something. He did not get the same letter this year....well not yet anyway. We assumed that it stayed in his file and was good for this year also. His body fat was about 12% when the did his measurements. He recently received ROTC scholarship and was not re-asked about the body weight. Still waiting for news from USNA. Good news is, if you got a waver once, hopefully you will get one again without a problem.......but reading some of the things on this forum, you never know. Good luck Kayaker.
