I bought two with my birthday money. I had saved up and bought my first stereo component set with turntable, speakers, amp/receiver and assembled it myself. Parents were slightly bemused by a child who loved to play and listen to classical music but was also interested in MoTown, R&B, female rock singers, jazz (have all of Ramsey Lewis Trio) and other genres.
Fifth Dimension - I loved their harmonies. Debut album, big hit “Up, Up and Away.”
Jefferson Airplane. Big hit “Somebody To Love.” Grace Slick, and her raw, rocker voice. She was the first in a long playlist I reserve for the car when I’m driving alone with Patti Smith, Janis Joplin, Pat Benatar, Heart’s Wilson sisters, Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, Debbie Harry, Stevie Nicks, Melissa Etheridge, et al. (I threw in Joan at the end. Some of you know the tune and words, some of you will know it from Sunday Night Football with different lyrics.)
Note: I had no clue about the drug references rife in popular music of that time.
