Has anyone actually been able to get a waiver for spinal fusion? Whether it be for AFROTC or Air Force enlisted, or Air Force Reserves? If so can you please explain your process and how you did it. I haven’t been able to find anything online that deals with spinal fusion. Thank you.

Why would this be non waiverable?

I don't know, it might be waiverable. But, in the legal/medical field a spinal fusion is considered a "permanent injury" that carries a disability rating. Fusions at one level of the spine make the levels above and below the fused section more susceptible to problems such as herniated discs because they have to bear more of the load on flexion and compression. This would make someone with fused vertebra more prone to a service related injury that the Air Force would then be responsible to treat. So, I really don't see why the Air Force would be inclined to grant a waiver. But the OP can always try.

What is OP? And I’m only fused from the top of my spine to the middle of my back. The bottom isn’t fused. I still have full mobility and no issues with pain or functioning.
