If I recall correctly they did not meet that deadline last year. Furthermore, some cadre haven't gotten their lists of basics yet and I doubt they'll give you guys that information before the cadre.

Just a heads up to the incoming class, the cadre receives the list of names in their squadrons. Some will immediately begin "researching" their basics on Google, Facebook, etc.

Just fair warning about your social media presence.

You will learn social media is NOT your friend the longer you are in the military and when getting or maintaining a security clearance. Not a friend either with your BCT cadre.

I just checked the BCT squadron assignment thread from last year. Basic squadron assignments were posted on the 17th of June for a 30 June I-Day.
So, if the Academy follows suit this year, I would expect you may hear today.

Go Hellcats!

Not all of them. I know 39 is wrong; it is Jedi Knights now. DD is in this one.

During BCT, the squadrons will be A - H, with five flights each, A - E. I don't believe the basics will know their flight until after inprocessing.

But, the squadron/flight will determine their academic year squadron; for example:
Squadron A, Flight A will go to Academic Squadron 1
Squadron H, Flight E will go to Academic Squadron 40

If you scroll a little bit down in the link provided by FMHS-79, you will see pictures of older, no longer used squadron patches.
DH still has a yellow Barnstormers (CS-23), the squadron he was in when he graduated in '79.
He just recently gave it to DD so when/if she chooses the "legacy" squadron for her last two years.

Here is another link from the AOG with current patches and squadron numbers/names:

If I recall, a day or so before I-Day, we went to the Visitors' Center shop where they had the basics Academic squadron assignments as well. Needless to say, we bought a few patches, among other items.

I walked my DS through a Facebook review a few weeks ago in preparation for this. If one goes into their profile, there is a "View as..." option you can use to see what the public view of the profile would be. We made sure that none of his timeline or profile is visible to the public (good option for everyone, not just cadets) and then applied the "coffee shop" rule to his friends list (Would I go to coffee shop with this person? If not, then delete the person from the friends list).

A google search of my DS's name was fun, but we knew that there was little chance of altering the data available at this point in time.

Thanks for the heads up!

You can also, as an extra layer of protection, make it to where only you can see your friends list. I saw your post and was fixing to apply the coffee shop rule to my Facebook and noticed that I can keep everyone, including friends, from viewing my friends list. It was much easier than the coffee shop rule IMHO.
