Still Haven't Heard! AROTC Scholarship

kinnem,

Thanks for filling in the blanks.

It's sure interesting to see the differences in each program. I really feel for all the AFROTC cadets that are sweating it out for the SFT results tomorrow.

It seems each ROTC has it's own level of stress, NROTC cadets competing for Advanced Standing, AROTC cadets hoping to get contracted, then the wait to see if they get Active Duty, and add to that the wait for Branch selection. AF competing for SFT,UPT. These kids have a lot added to their college life that other students can't even imagine, they are truely an amazing bunch.

Good luck to all of them.

I fully agree. Thank goodness the kids can deal with it better than us! Or at least better than I (Guess I should speak for myself only).

I was going to compare it to other college students searching for a job senior year, and I suppose in some ways the stress level might be the same. But this is more like "keeping" your job, which is quite different in many ways. And, we have to suffer through it with them, or at least I do. Wouldn't miss it for the world though! :thumb:

Completely agree. DS is currently home on Spring break - love hearing him talk about his plans - and changes to those plans. Participating in ROTC has given him a new outlook that is amazing to me. I think thru his struggles this young man is growing into a better leader and more importantly a better human being.

Also agree, my stress level is higher than his about his future contracting and all the other stuff. He is just taking everything one step at a time(he's getting more and more like his papa, my much calmer DH:thumb:)

Thought today might be the day! I checked this morning and the AROTC Status Page was down for some reason. I thought maybe they were finally updating, but no. Just checked in and still no change. Argh. Anyone else seen any changes, either positive or negative?

I feel for your anticipation each day that goes by!! My DS was awarded a 3year AD AROTC scholarship on the last board. I was told that out of the 10,000 applicants only 2000 will receive some type of scholarship. He accepted, but he has up to March 24, 2012 to submit. With that being said, possibly not all of the second board decisions have come in.

Thanks DartFrogLover, and congrats to your son! So I guess that would mean 1-2 weeks after the 24th, since they will have to figure out what they have left and who to give it to.

Crossing our fingers!

I think your right.

This year there semed to be awards given out after the first round of awards from the second board. It looks like they are waiting until the final acceptance dates before releasing the awards from the final board. Tough wait, I know.

Thank you!! After applying to all three academies and the three rotc programs, it did pay off. Our DS wanted to serve his country in one of the forces, so he applied to all of them.

Tough times with the budget cuts and all!! I am sure it will be very, very soon that the 3rd board releases info to you all. All of the other boards came back to tell us he was not selected, so try to be patient:eek: Our motto is "Have Faith". The Lord knows what HE is doing and we want to know NOW!!

Could be another week....

Hate to mention this.....but it could be another week plus. My daughter's offer came between 2nd and 3rd board (official letter date was 2/29/12). She signed right away but she actually had until 3/30/12 to decide. I would assume there are other offers like that still out there waiting on decisions. Best of luck to all.....my heart goes out to you as you wait (hard thing to do!!)

Have any third board applicants seen a statue change in their page yet? The waiting is agony!

You'll know when people's online status begin to change because this thread will blow up with responses and updates....

Good luck to everyone out there still waiting to hear back!! :thumb:

ROTC help

Have any third board applicants seen a statue change in their page yet? The waiting is agony!

Good luck. What do I do for rotc; when do I start? Visited one fine, local AROTC and have address to national scholarship for rotc. Do I wait for strong score on ACT, and does my FF advise me?

Oh boy! Now I'm really nervous and will be checking hourly, I'm sure! I hope everyone will post here. Anxious to see everyones results and hoping for the best for my son.

As for post above, Wayne, it depends what grade you are in, but you start by getting good grades, playing sports, and getting involved in leadership positions. Talk to your local ROO at a nearby college or university. Do your homework. And GOOD LUCK!

Just hourly? It's going to take everything I have to keep from checking more often than every 30 minutes!

If I remember correctly(last year is kind of a blur in my mind:wink:) I was updating DS's every 15 minutes:rolleyes: Keep the faith, Ft. Knox will hopefully work quickly to get the results posted:thumb:

I'm going to have to change my name to Obsessivelaxmom8! I've checked many times already today. I think I need an intervention. Not sure how much more I can take.

If he does not get an offer, I am assuming they will post that on the status page, too? I just need to know one way or another and I'm hoping they will give us that courtesy. My son has sent emails ( a while back, maybe a month or so) to CC and the ROO and PMS at his school and not even gotten any sort of response. Sort of surprised by that.

The waiting can be tough. Usually when Clarkson posts that the results are coming in, applicants status pages start to change, it should be soon.

Unfortunatly if your son does not receive a scholarship his status page will not change, it will remain as it is now. Once all the scholarships are given and accepted and they close the process they will send your son a letter stating he was not selected. I'm not sure if they ever change the status page, maybe someone can answer that one, but for ow the status won't change if he does not receive an offer.

CC is terrible in responding unless it's has to do with missing items on the application. If your son sent emails asking what his status was to the ROO and PMS, they did not know so they probably just waited until the results came out. Spring is a busy time with ROTC, I wouldn't be too concerned about not getting an email back.

The only notification of not receiving an offer will simply be his status never changes, sometime in May/June you should receive an offical letter.

I would only be concerned about not hearing from his ROO/PMS...the ROO at DS's 1st choice was my link to sanity at times, he was amazing and very supportive of DS and me thru the process. CC was not very responsive to DS or myself when we attempted to contact them throughout the process.

You are not more obsessive than many of us were last year. Try to be kind to yourself - the path our kids have choosen is filled with hurry up and wait situations and constant changes to the plans. I truly have empathy for all of you waiting, but sincerely and respectfully encourage you all to use this crazy waiting period to enjoy one another and accept that this is part of the life they've choosen to lead. Selfless service often means Mom and Dad go along for the ride too, the hardest lesson I've leaned so far:smile:

Hey Jcleppe -- cross posted with you...should have known you'd be around for the day
