I am currently a senior in high school, and I was awarded a three year Army ROTC Scholarship. I am very grateful for this opportunity and I want to make the most of it. What can I do while attending ROTC that can increase my chances of being selected for summer training opportunities like Airborne School or Air Assault School?

Thanks in advance for your help!

You won't be able to attend schools until you are contracted. The biggestest thing is your class OML (gpa, PT score, EC). PT score is huge so I would recommend maxing it. The next big thing is letting your cadre know you are interested ASAP. Keep mentioning it and ask what you can do to improve your chances. We had a kid that was uncontracted as a freshman always ask about dive school and train on his own for it, he contracted this year and guess what... got the dive school slot becaue he would always bug the cadre about it! Don't forget about CULP, project go, and army internships!

My DS is a 3 year winner like you. Since his contract hadn't started officially until August before his sophomore year, he was not able to go to any summer training after his first year. This coming summer however, he will be attending CULP (Poland) and then Air Assault School. He is in a very large AROTC program and the key was being at the top of his class in academics, PT score maxed out, also involved in many extra-curriculars within his program (Color Guard, Sandhurst Team, Pathfinders this year). There are fantastic opportunities awaiting you!

There is a process to send uncontracted cadets to summer training. But better be a 300+ on the PT test, eager, motivated, and not a "pain in the ass" to the cadre. We just sent a rising sophomore to Airborne school with a waiver.
