Hello Everyone,

I was notified today that I was medically accepted to The Citadel and I plan to enroll in the fall. I wanted to know if there was any technical difference with The Citadels' medical acceptance standards compared to the DoDMERB in regards to what is waived and what is not. For example, I had a foot surgery with screws and plates (back in 2016) for a Lapidus Bunionectomy which was waived by The Citadel. Does that mean that when I hopefully receive a scholarship at The Citadel (attending as a college programmer NROTC) that the DoDMERB would most likely accept me as well?

TylerMiller1...congratulations on your acceotance to The Citadel. You will need to meet the Department of the Navy's medical requirements for being awarded an ROTC scholarship. The only answer you can go by has to come from the Department of the Navy. The Citadel medical requirements and acceptance are based on its evaluation that you are able to participate in all of The Corps of Cadets training including PT, and are not a substitute for medical qualifications set by the military services for either ROTC scholarships or commissioning. Once you enroll in the NROTC program, at the college, you should bring this up with your PNS so that they are able to educate you on the medical requirements for scholarships and how to undertake a medical waiver if nexessary. The ROTC forum on this site has many many posts on medical waivers that you may want to read
