The Everything Drawer - Everyone has one, right? (post anything - within the rules)

We didn't get a lot of SWO's dropping by the 'Nut.... I 'm sure you were popular !
I was on Second Fleet staff as a reservist and a group of us flew through Kef on the way to the flagship for a big NATO exercise. We got to Kef on Commercial Air but the task force could not get us for a few days because FOG! so we spend 3 or 4 days with little to do/no duties except periodic muster and the kindly in residence squadron invited us to while away our time in the 'Nut. Our group was a good mix of warfare specialties with a SWO CO who was definitely a steamer so it was a good time.

Colorado - Fool's Gold

Legend has it that one night, Elvis Presley took a private jet from Graceland to Denver just to purchase 28 Fool's Gold sandwiches from the Colorado Mine Company restaurant. Each sandwich was made from a hollowed-out loaf of French bread slathered with margarine, baked, then filled with a pound of bacon, peanut butter and jelly.

Blech.

yum yum, my cousin from my ancestry dot com site. He and I are products of the inbreeding of the Presley and Helms families which also produced cousin Jimmy Carter. 548B360E-EF43-4AE4-8307-802E68846A31.jpeg

DS shares his birthday as did DS's grandmother. In fact DS was born in '93 on the day the Elvis postage stamp was issued.. Thank you very much.

I think the sandwich from Colorado could be featured in the bacon thread...with some variations by Capt MJ of course
MD’s surprises me! I thought it would be a seafood sandwich. Something crab 🦀

The best sandwich list has made it onto my "bucket list."

That said, I do have a complaint. Everyone thinks of NY as NYC and this article definitely took that stand. However, for those of us who have lived upstate, there is another better part of the state which should be used to define it. As far as sandwiches from upstate, I vote for Beef on a Weck out of western NY - particularly Buffalo. It is made with roast beef on a kummelweck roll, a roll that is topped with kosher salt and caraway seeds. The meat on the sandwich is traditionally served rare, thin cut, with the top bun getting a dip in au jus and spread with horseradish. Schwabl's is the most famous, but there are plenty of other good places.

And while you are there, don't forget to go to the Anchor Bar for Buffalo Wings (creators of this culinary classic)!

At Walter Reed with my wife. Been lots of black Suburbans in and around this morning which isn’t unusual. Then this presidential white top flew over the tower. Don’t know if it’s Marine One or HMX-1 just out for some Friday fun.C660DCED-046F-42D6-8D48-F48F726A5B07.jpeg

I've had the Beef on a Weck and it was pretty good. The NJ choice like many of the others such as MD seems to be what the author likes as opposed to what is unique and good in the state like Beef on a Weck or in the case of NJ, a Taylor Ham/Pork Roll Sandwich which is generally with fried Egg and ketchup as a breakfast sandwich.
