My thing is that I would tell DD to proceed and apply but that seems hardly fair to the other kids that need a nomination if the prep school cadets don't need one.
Prep school cadets need a nom too.
Look at it this way, every cadet at the AFA is charged to a source regardless of their background. There is no prep school nominating source, thus they need to get one. That is how the system works, without a nom, you have no source to be charged, no nom = no apptmt.
Prep or SA it holds true.
flyerdreamer,
I am sorry you feel this way. Flieger who is a mod here, an ALO in the real world and AFAD, will tell you he was a prepster who was commissioned at the AFA.
I am sure if he knew, what appears to be frustration, on your part he would respond. However, like you, me and everyone else we hit that topic which interests us the most. This thread is called the reapplying club, and not prep club.
Please understand this is not meant antagonistically at all. It is meant to explain how to get your ultimate desire, which would be guidance for prepster.
JMPO, but I think you can help a lot of posters/lurkers on this forum if you posted every question you need answered on the Prep thread.
There is no such thing as a stupid question, there are only stupid people who never ask questions!
Again, I am sorry you feel this way.
I have limited knowledge regarding the Prep school situation. Here is what I know.
1. Prep exists because the candidate has the overall package, yet is lacking academically. Thus, they want them to go this route to build a better academic foundation, which in turn means higher success chances at the academy.
In other words..if you have a 33 ACT, 3.85 uwgpa, 9 APS, Prep will not be offered to you. Academically you are competitive, it is something else in your WCS that is lacking to win the nom.
2. Prepsters traditionally if they want it after that yr have a higher % appointment rate than HS candidates.
IMPO, this is probably due to the fact that they survived the life for a yr, and transitioning over will be easier for them than a HS candidate. JMPO.
3. MOC's will see you are a prepster, and that will be placed into their equation.
If you made their slate last yr (even prepsters need noms), and the AFA placed you into their system, it signals to them you deserve to get that nom.
4. Prep mimics the SA system, hence the reason it is called Prep. You can't expect to attend prep and live a life different than the SA. If dinner is at 6, it is at 6, not 4 because you are hungry.
I make no bones about the fact that I don't know Prep, I am just saying that after 3+ yrs, the points I made are common facts. If there is a question regarding prep that I didn't cover than again contact Flieger.
This would be what I would do; create a post on prep school Forums. Titled AFA Prep question.
I would than PM Flieger and ask him to chime in. He is not only the best resource out there in this matter, but he truly cares about every candidate and wants the best for the AF.
