I will be begin.

1. 13 Hours: The secret soldiers of Benghazi - Still gets me a little bit each time
2. The Outpost
3. Black Hawk Down
4. USS Indianapolis
5. Generation Kill

Band of Brothers without question.

Saving Pvt Ryan the fight At the beach the fight at the end. The rest is ok.

Jarhead. The 03s I know that were there say it was dead on.

Generation Kill

The single best imo without question——the Pacific. The closest to reality and well told and very historically accurate.

Although I saw Cross of Iron years ago and it might get honorable mention. As would 12 O’clock High.

Still thinking. We had a great thread on this a few years ago.

Das Boot for sure.
Band of Brothers

I really enjoyed “Greyhound” with Tom Hanks on AppleTV for the action and leadership. Not a complicated plot. Kill or be killed.

Far away from Das Boot , which really is a classic, while not a great movie , but an interesting fun sub movie , with enough upbeat overcoming odds to satisfy most

Subs and SEALS and the head of Russia is a good guy :)

It had the feel of a movie where the writers tried to get things moderately close to reality.

Hunter Killer.

This one is outside the time range but I always thought "The Enemy Below" (1957) was pretty good. I've watched it several times. It was also the basis for a Start Trek episode.

Got to support Das Boot. Made me feel exhausted at the end, just like the crew was.

Rule 3:13 Section 3 paragraph 4:

"Moderators may submit entries outside of timeline."

I liked that one, but Run Silent, Run Deep has to be my favorite from that era and more than a few bubbleheads would agree with me. That one was filmed aboard the USS Redfish (SS-395) and shows the actual tight quarters that they had to work within. According to one sailor on the Redfish at the time, Clark Gable spent a lot of free time between shots getting to know the enlisted men, whereas Burt Lancaster just sat in the officers mess between takes. What a tool.

But I digress.

I have to say that even though it was a totally different era than when I was in, I'm going to give Generation Kill top marks for being pretty darned close to what being a Marine is all about (at least from this POG's perspective). Especially the last episode when the reporter leaves them and they just say "okay, bye". That's pretty perfect right there. ;)

It’s not a traditional military movie per se no one wears a uniform.

it’s more freedom fighters aka terrorists vs those who hunt terriorists aka freedom fighters.

The series (not the bad movie) ——Little Drummer Girl.

It’s really good but I’d advice reading a wiki page if you have not read the novel. It can be quite confusing

And maybe the best movie about those who see themselves as freedom fighters and those who see themselves as killing bad guys and restoring order

The Battle of Algiers.

Should be a must see for any officer or nco doing that kind of work.

30 years? who knew?

Off the top of my head I love We Were Soldiers, Band of Brothers, Black Hawk Down.

But digging into some lists, Schindler's List and Braveheart were both within 30 years, and The Hurt Locker, 300, Dunkirk and Tropic Thunder are under twenty years old.

Sticking to 5 from the last 30 years limitation:

Band of Brothers
Saving Private Ryan
We Were Soldiers
Greyhound
The Hurt Locker

Band of Brothers
Hacksaw Ridge
Saving Pvt Ryan
We were Soldiers
Full Metal Jacket (first half only)

Way Older, but one of my favorite war movies is Sahara with Humprey Bogart

I cry a little each time I watch "The Outpost"

Buddy was a Recon MARINE doing QRF. Said Camp Keating was a frequent stop.

The 1st LT I always think man in a years that is my son.
