Rule 3:13 Section 3 paragraph 4:This one is outside the time range but I always thought "The Enemy Below" (1957) was pretty good. I've watched it several times. It was also the basis for a Start Trek episode.
Got to support Das Boot. Made me feel exhausted at the end, just like the crew was.
I liked that one, but Run Silent, Run Deep has to be my favorite from that era and more than a few bubbleheads would agree with me. That one was filmed aboard the USS Redfish (SS-395) and shows the actual tight quarters that they had to work within. According to one sailor on the Redfish at the time, Clark Gable spent a lot of free time between shots getting to know the enlisted men, whereas Burt Lancaster just sat in the officers mess between takes. What a tool....I always thought "The Enemy Below" (1957) was pretty good...
