Would I be able to update my NROTC application after sumbission? I have my entire online application done and ready to submit, however, if I get higher SAT scores or a new thing worthy to include in my application, would I be able to update it even after I submit? Also, how does the AFA work for NROTC since I haven't seen any instructions on the online form.

You will have to contact the recruiter who should have reached out to you with any updates. Provide them the needed documents, and they will take care of the rest. The instructions for the AFA should have also been sent by your local recruiter when they reached out and made contact with you.

they have reached out but no specifics regarding the afa yet. Ill email and ask again.

updating the Sat/ACT is automatic when you send the scores in. No other action is needed.

got it thanks. What about all oter things like if i were to get a new activity or leadership position?
You will be assigned to a regional counselor/officer who is going to be your point of contact. You will be able to politely ask how to update things such as new awards, positions etc via email.
Our son's was great, she just asked that his high school counselor submit the updated resume or award from the counselor's school email, thus it was 'verified'. I would caution you against emailing or pestering your regional point of contact, use that sparingly, you want them on your side not feeling like they are being pestered. His was really friendly, she even encouraged him to finish his app in time for the first boards, which was not on his radar, and when he got the scholarship, she sent the congrats complete with confetti email!
:) Good luck!

Remember everyone is running on Covid time and running on short staff. Be patient, you have plenty of time. Our son completed his in early October. Spend time training for your physical test.

Of course. Thank you for the advice. I'm just hoping to get a good amount of my applications out of the way so I can still study and improve my SAT score.

@Hopeful2025 - before you submit, have you asked anyone to review your application? Have you been scheduled for the Officer Interview yet? You may find it helpful to bring the application in it's non-submitted form to the OI. The interviewer (an NROTC Staff Officer) may provide some suggestions/helpful tips on making the application stronger, to include your personal essay.

yes i dont plan to submit until just before the first board meets. I was jus curious ahout what would happen if i wantes to update something after submitting it.

I’ve been through this process with 3 of my children. Each time, it was a flurry of activity towards the end with their regional recruiter. So about August. June is super early. Not surprising that things aren’t happening presently.

They are also on their summer schedules. Some have families, taking leaving for vacations with their own kiddos, etc. One of my sons actually had his regional person change 3 times during the summer (that’s a whole other story...each time his teacher rec’s were ‘lost’ as they hadn’t been submitted by the regional person. So teachers had to resubmit. Not a big deal, just pointing out ‘stuff can happen’) before settling in with his final person.

I’ve read that updating stuff after your package has been submitted to the board is not extremely easy/dependable. Perhaps it depends on what ROTC program, and/or what the updated info you are adding is. Perhaps it depends on if your package has been reviewed or not. I don’t know, all of mine were offered first round so didn’t do any updates to their package. So make sure you discuss with your regional person. It could be that a better strategy, depending on what your proposed update is, could be to wait for the next board so that info is already included in your first package. Your recruiter will be able to advise you.

As far as the organization and communication of the process, the SA’s were much ‘easier’ than ROTC. At least as far at Air Force and Navy. Good luck to you!! And thanks for stepping up to the plate, your willingness to serve!!
