USAFA Appointment List Class of 2025

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever attempted to put the appointees stats into the chart so we can get a better idea of the overall admissions over time?

Check post #378 on page 19 of this thread (the previous page). I made a chart showing how self-reported appointments accumulate over time compared to the last couple years of data on this forum. I actually tagged you in it, but maybe the notification didn't go through.

Is that what you had in mind?

I meant stats as in grades, act, and the like.

Wouldn't do any good. Thing about people on this forum is they're above the rest. Anything to get an edge we'll take simple as that. So the data would be skewed. Would only show what the best did to get in not what the average did.
Secondly we don't know. What I mena by that is someone could be accepted by a single word on their application somethinf we wouldn't know. Could be that I wrote about food in my application or maybe it is my 33 in reading that got me in. Don't get me wrong. I would love if this information helps. Being able to tailor my application even more, but we can't do that can we? We can guess the lowest height of the hurdle to clear in the darkness but we only know if made it if we don't hit it.

I’m not sure how to respond to this. You mention that people on this forum are ‘above the rest’. I am unaware of a database regarding our stats or those of our illustrious brethren or our candidates or our kiddos or active duty family members.
The mention of “only the best posting here.” “Not the average”. has me flummoxed as well. It is quite an assumption to think that posters here or contributors are those who have candidates that by your definition are “above average “. Ironically that negates the import of forums. That all candidates can benefit from sage wisdom and real world experiences.
You stated “if we would only know what the best did to get in not the average” speaks volumes. This is not about the best. This is not about test scores. This is not about GPA. It is about all of it. The entirety of a person and their capability. And so much of that can not be measured on this forum or ‘tailoring’ their application to any academy.

Correct this cannot be measured. That's the second reason I gave as to why the information would be not as beneficial as some may believe. The essay I wrote could show exactly what the acceptance is looking for the " whole candidate". What no test score could show and thus what no information that we would think to report ( because we didn't know what to report).

By "above average" I mean a good chunk of those in the forums. Do I know this? Well no. So why do I say it? Because by my assumption and looking at those who post they are what the academies want. Their profiles are great. These forums are designed for information. You get information by asking questions. Those that want to become better ask more questions and become better using information.

Also the academies don't want average. They want leaders, they want people who they can take and mold. They want the althletes who compete at the olympics. They want a football team that wins. They want a team player, who guess what?, isn't average at what they do. They're the best at what they can do with what they have. Why would we ever want a "average military." Why? We claim to be the best military in the world. The leaders of that military can't afford to be average. Average means lives lost. We can't be the best at everything but we can find the blindspots and fit them. We can't find those blindspot with average.

The cadets the academy trains are more likely to become fighter pilots. If those fighter pilots fight badly we lose. Loss means lives, money and jobs. Whether you believe that the military is in it for the money, for the people, or for the jobs they are NOT going to risk those fighters being the people who are in the 50 percenttile. It just doesn't make any sense. They want the best nothing wrong with that.

But the best doesn't always mean test scores or great essay writing. It could mean drive, wanting to know more, wanting to improve even when you're in the top 1%. That's why I say people on this forum are above average. They will ask the questions to become better. They will improve their test scores till the test scores show " better than average". They will fight for the varsity spot making them "better than average" in their sport. People here want answers, and search and learn. They are better than average because they choose to be.

And guess what? That will mess with the data. You've got 100-200 who are constantly fighting to be that top 1% who fight for every inch. Every point, every second. So it makes them above average. Thus data is less useful.

Very well thought out. And detailed and elucidated. I appreciate your explanation and kudos to you for being able to so effectively communicate your position.

How exactly would you want to chart that? It sounds like a complex visualization problem and your data points would be inconsistent across each candidate reporting. Short of mapping everything tracked within the whole candidate score, it could also present a lopsided image of the candidate profile. A candidate with a low SAT can still get in because of other factors.

Re-applicant here. I've seen a few people mention this-is that how the re-applicant appointments work? It's like a whole slew of them at one time? Figured it would be the same rolling-style like Direct Appointment, but I guess I never really gave it much thought to begin with. I feel like if that is the case, we will know around early March.

Been two weeks since the last “big” drop of appointments. DS is anxiously checking his portal for an update each early morning. 😓 Patience is a virtue that the good Lord gives us plenty of practice to perfect. 😆

March is almost here! I bet we'll be seeing a lot more appointments starting next week according to previous data. I'll be happy to find out if I'm going or not since either way, it'll narrow down where I'll be attending. This is the last college I'm waiting on and then after that, I can make a decision.
