LEAD is a program for enlisted Airmen to attend the Academy. Insider might be able to let you know more about when Falcons will hear. Hopefully it will be soon. Hang in there. :thumb:

So, if DS received his TWE does he still have a chance for Prep or Falcon?

"Historically" Falcon Foundation letters came out after TWE's...I don't know this year.

Appointment offers to USAFA Prep School are going out at the present time (I say this ONLY because I have a student that received one, I've not been told anything official from USAFA/RRS).

I hope I get one whether it be Prep School or Falcon Foundation. This past month has been tough.

My ALO told me that in a regular year the last few BFE and Prep school offers can come as late as mid June. This year isn't regular however, so any official information is better that what I have to offer. I'm just trying to get a little hope out there.

Can anyone help with this question?

Hello, recently I've been appointed to the USAFA Prep School and I'm wondering what I can expect, any tips? What's BMT like?

Also, I'm starting to train a lot harder than I have been in the past (this news has been motivating) and can anybody tell me about how many miles I can be expected to run a day at the academy?

When I went to the summer seminar, I pretty much ran until I was told to stop and I"d like not to have to rely on mental stamina alone next year at the prep school. 3 miles a day? 5 miles a day? I just want to get ahead of the game, make no mistake though, I feel whatever they throw at me I can keep going.

Thanks.

Congratulations to prep362 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:groupwave::groupwave::groupwave::groupwave:

prep362 started another thread yesterday under Tips on what to expect and is looking for some answers, but no one has responded yet. I'm thinking this may be one of the first we have heard about who have been notified about getting into USAFA Prep School. So, I thought I would move this into this thread to see if it could get some activity. I don't know the answers, hoping others will. :thumb:

Act fast on Falcon Scholarships

DS received Falcon offer approx ten days after twe. Those were sent out in waves and were filled on a first responder basis. More were sent than spots avail. We called as soon as received and followed up with overnight mail to accept. There were only two spots left when we called. If we would have just mailed it would have been too late.

Sorry forgot to mention this was last year. We are still waiting for word this year after attending NWP

I posted a question on the FB Prep page and they responded that this year appointments may be delayed, but that Cadet Candidates should be notified by 15 May.

just realized you are talking about current Falcon scholars, not current Cadet Candidates at the AF Prep school. I have heard that current Falcon scholars should be notified by 25 April.

That's what we keep hearing! 2 weeks!

All - Just to offer a few clarifications on USAFA Prep and Falcon Scholarships. My DS was a Falcon at NWP 2 years ago and is now a successful recognized 4degree at USAFA. At that time there were several highly qualified candidates who were offered Falcon Scholarships. ACT's above 30, SAT's in 700's, High GPA's etc. But there was something small that may not have kicked them over to receive a direct appointment. That something could have been a strong but not perfect CFA or they were from a VERY competitive state or district etc. For Falcon Scholars, at that time where class size had begun to reduce and it was becoming more and more selective/competitive, it was the slimest of margins that allowed them to not receive the direct appointment but be offered a Falcon slot. (Is worse now then at taht time) Be Humble!

There are roughly 100 Falcon slots available so if you are offered one and your dream is USAFA take it. It will only allow you to take that extra time to polish that 700 Math to a 750 Math, you will be much more mature to handle the rigors of freshman year, you will become a leader in your class instantly at USAFA, you will have the ability your freshman, if placement tests allow, to take Sophmore level classes, you will have more time as an upperclassman to advance a minor or take extra courses or activities. It is as others have said your ticket to your dream as long as you succeed in the expectations set.

At the time there was little information on the web about the Falcon program and not many people talking about it openly. Our DS too if he was less than or why don't they really want me, but he had a stellar resume and had been accepted to many top engineering schools in the nation. It simply was not and is not true. Decide what you or your DS/DD want and if given the opportunity take it and take it fast. USAFA is telling you they want you! The slots go very fast as others have said. There are so many advantages looking back now that came from this one decision it is truly amazing for our DS. Follow your heart, be humble in this time of extreme competitiveness, and follow your dream. Good Luck all! PM if offered the opportunity and I will happily share any info or help that I can.

Good luck current Falcons! You are almost to I-Day! Expect lots of posts on the appointment thread of Falcons and appointments April 25th!
